Because companies don't want the hassle from the left. I go out of my way to find garments that are made from child labor. I also avoid anything that says 'from recyclable material.'

I don't think they are though. I think the impression is given to these corporations that we're all a bunch of politically correct shitheads so they don't even bother with the risk. The majority of us who are going to buy what we want to buy don't care, so why not satisfy that small portion of idiots who pretend they care about shite
For instance, I don't want roger goodell punished because ray rice decked him, or that everything he says is empty, or that his morals and values are pretty fricked and yet he preaches about standards and values.
I want him fire because the product they make, I enjoy less. I want to keep enjoying that fricking product. It has less value (not entirely unvaluable) to me.
Harvey Weinstein, who I loathe, could be distributing some awesome fricking movie. So long as he is not on screen, I'm watching it.
Drew Brees could be a communist, wife beating, hypocritical hipster with swastikas tattooed everywhere...so long as he's throwing touchdowns. (This isn't the movies, I don't have to relate to him)

you must care about the environment then. I don't, but good for you.

in certain countries, the culture and economic circumstances force children to work. Not buying something because a 9 year old made it sucks if you actually care about the kid. great, now he'll starve.
I think you just became one of my favorite posters

most forms of recycling are bad for the environment and economically impractical

I really don't think they are...I think corporations are pretty stupid.
They think you have to get up there, wave your hands and say key phrases and words
people respond to people who are natural and genuine. You don't have to give money to the NAACP or whatever, if someone accuses you of racism, you tell them you're not racist.
I guess PR is only worth it if you're actually a reprehensible shithead and you don't want people to know it, but I think past a certain point, those PR parlor tricks just piss people off more...but I'm still amazed at how effective they can be sometimes

consumers also finance rims. I cannot conceive of a reason to finance rims but people do it all the the time.
Corporations make these decisions in a cold and calculated way. Can I make money by doing this? I was part of a green program at work (drafted) and it was all to sell more shite.

For those of you younger folks. This is how stupid consumers can be:
pets that require little maintenance

quote:Have you ever paid more for something because it was made by a local company, even if the quality is the same or even worse? If you have, it was to keep the dollars local to help the local economy, and in turn, yourself, right?
Why do consumers care about anything other than the quality of the product or service they purchase?
Well, believe it or not, many people have concerns about things other than money. But, since everything requires money, where we spend our dollars can influence what happens in our other areas of concern. I happen to like it when companies spend money in my community, so I am more likely to buy things from companies that do so.
So, does that make me a stupid consumer? Or does it make the companies that I give my money to stupid for pandering to my preferences?
As far as I'm concerned, as long as a portion of the dollars that I spend end up being spent doing things that I want to happen, each dollar is effectively a vote.

It has nothing to do with wanting to avoid being hassled by the left. It's called "cause-based marketing" and it works. Actors do it all the time.

no

Yeah, but what does that have to do with what I'm asking? I'm asking about consumer choices. Consumers don't buy money. They buy goods and services. Sure, they can save money, and so you may buy something with less value because of the quality

so do I, but it isn't going to be a factor in my purchasing decision. frick, if mike Bloomberg became the apple CEO, I'm not canceling my iphone order

does that make me a stupid consumer?
I don't know, do you think that companies are spending money in your community because they care about your community or because they want to encourage you to buy their shite?
quote:I bought a ps4 because I think it's better than xbox one, it will have better exclusives and it is also cheaper. So long as their money isn't being spent in a way that could reasonably impact me negatively...I don't give a shite.
as long as a portion of the dollars that I spend end up being spent doing things that I want to happen
If sony starts pumping tens of millions into gun control in the united states, I will buy Microsoft...but again, I'm doing what he consumer should do...acting in my self interests.

fox you are not a prototypical american, don't use what you would do to judge others.

actors need to be relatable (well known ones at least) otherwise people may have a hard time buying their character because they know what a slimy piece of shite you are...and can't enjoy the movie, won't see the movie, etc.
if they want to see it but loathe you that much, they can watch it online.
that's a bad example, though I am familiar with the concept...I have never seen the numbers demonstrating its effectiveness, and I'm not really doubting it either...I don't really know. I know that I don't care, despite having a pretty varying range of friends and social acquaintances, I don't know anyone who does really care.
but everyone does it, so it must be effective right? but 'everybody is doing it' doesn't mean it works (pretty damn good indicator though)
