I live in St. Amant and am looking for a good place to bring my 8 year old son on Sunday to play golf for his birthday. Will drive up to an hour.

It does not need to be a nice course, it can be in goat ranch shape for all I care.

What's the best place to go that will not be crowded? TIA

Right now the Denham Springs Country Club has a well being drilled on the 4th fairway (seriously). The course is still open. There are trucks driving around the course, but I took my 6 yr old daughter last week and we had the whole place to ourselves. The greens were in good shape. The rest of the course was crap (fairways were cut though) as always. It was $10 for 9 holes. I think we played 20 or so, since we played most of them at least twice. She had a good time. If he's just learning, it may be a good place to teach, even if you have to put up with the roughnecks.

I love Santa Maria, myself. They do twilight hours so it wont be too bad on Sunday. Lots of ponds and very pretty houses to look at. Webb is the same case but not nearly as nice, for almost the same amount of money.

Every kid's first 9 holes should be played at BR City Park.
I remember my first round every time I drive past that course on the interstate.

Tigerfan22,

You really need to check out Clark Park in Baker. It is a bit more of a drive, but that is exactly what it is there for. It is the "First Tee" course in Baton Rouge. It is an Executive course, with five par three's and four par four's. Perfect for your 8 year old. They also have a driving range, putting green and chipping green.

City Park in BR. I played my first round on it and my last one too, on Tuesday.

I took my daughter with me to Webb Park several years ago and was told that children under the age of 10 were not even allowed to be on the course, much less play. As I said this was several years ago, but it may be worth making a phone call first.
