Meanwhile, somewhere in Silicon Valley...an IT contractor from India just got fired and his company lost all future Apple contracts.

i highly highly HIGHLY doubt the compiling, deployment and provisioning of apple's crown jewel OS was done without the involvement of the very top software engineers in cupertino.

Apparently, they have yet to fire the moron who was running the live stream and who was supposed to open the online store on launch day.
Thanks for the update...gonna take a smoke break and try iTunes on my personal machine.

So this is interesting. iTunes is telling me that 8.0 is the latest version and I no longer see 8.0.1 in my software updates on my phone.
Guess they realized that they made an oopsy and yanked it.

From CNBC

The iOS 8.0.1 update is no longer available after multiple users earlier reported serious issues with the new version of the operating system, one that was expected to fix a glitch with the highly anticipated HealthKit apps.
Apple confirmed to Re/code that the company is investigating the issue and has pulled the update.

to be fair to apple; they have the unenviable task of being 100% in control of the system and the update working across every device they've ever built.
This is what should make it super easy. Their code has to run on like 5 devices. Microsoft and Google have to deal with infinite combinations of hardware, devices and software. You just proved the point that Apple coders suck.

They have a ton of glitches in this roll out like killing WIFI and battery life and Apple focuses on making sure the Healthkit App is running.

I was just thinking to myself that our devs at work do weird things, but they've never released the wrong iteration to production before.
I think the iPhone 6 itself is great, but the amateurish way that the release and ios 8 have been done is a real head scratcher

yep apple pulled the update. Around 12:45 I checked it was there ready to update. I just check about 2 hours later it is no longer there.
Apple is getting a lot of bad apples this week.
Your an apple geek if you know what I'm referring to.

My son has a i5 and he got an update message a couple of days ago. Based on previous issues with IOS updates, I warned him not to do it. Guess it is a good thing...
