re: Why do people lower trucks?

2/4 drop isnt bad. I think it improves the look of a truck.
I think dropping it so much where they have to do frame work and add air bags to get it off the ground is stupid. Especially when they live in a trailer and dont have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of.

I don't mind what anyone buys. It's each persons taste no matter the price tag. But to feel like the rims, etc. on the vehicle you drive define your personality enough that you need to change them, means you have too much of your self worth vested in the look of your vehicle.
People are going to judge and everyone has an opinion. This just happens to be mine. You probably think the watch I wear is dumb, or the house I live in is unnecessary (just hypothetical examples, I live in a shite house ). But I have an opinion that spending extra money on daily drivers to show off your individuality reminds me of the mindset of a lot of people I knew in high school.

Ok, cool, you lowered the truck. Can you answer the title question: why did you do it?
Well...I never go off road. Don't hunt or anything. I only needed a truck to tow a boat/jet-skis and haul stuff here and there. I got into some performance truck forums and got a bit carried away...decided I'd lower it a bit just bc I don't care for the stock rake and thought it'd look more performance oriented. Unfortunately, truck wasn't tuned well...developed an exhaust leak somewhere and became a bit of a headache, so I sold it. Never ran the 12's I was hoping it'd run. Bottom line, I did it for looks. #aintcare

Jordan21210, your is sweet. I believe the OP should have said 'ridiculously low" to make his point.
Thanks yeah. I kind of figured that's what he may have meant. I don't mind the ones laying frame either though. I would never drive one or spend the money to do it...but I think if done right, it can look pretty badass.

I just thought it looked good. Really wasn't out trying to impress anyone. That being said, I am generally very against aftermarket rims on pedestrian vehicles. If you want a set of ADV1's or HRE's on a $150,000+ sports car...then go for it. Otherwise, stick to the OEMs. All I did on my old truck was powdercoat some OEM 2006+ 20" Ram 1500 rims.

Do you generally wear a flat bill cap?

I would have figured that for all of you guys being so intelligent, classy, and self righteous that you would have at least had some sort of clue or idea that the trucks you see that are "ridiculously" low have adjustable suspension (air). Right? I mean, you guys are aware of this, right? As in...its only that low when they want it to be. People do it because they like it, its their hobby, and because they can. Why do you do the shite you do? I had a 1999 S10 back in the day that was an all out show vehicle: air suspension, completely shaved bodywork, custom painted, painted interior with Bentley leather/suede seats, Bentley carpet, etc etc and featured in 3 print magazines and 5-6 online magazines.
So...again, why do you do the shite you do? And do you fricking care what people on a website think about it? If so...I guess you better find new hobbies because no matter what yours might be, they are dumb. That's the logic you exude.

I don't wear a cap of any sort. I also drive a bone stock truck these days FWIW. Hopefully society approves of me.

No need to defend yourself here. Remember, there are probably several others in this thread with lifted trucks who believe they actually need it to drive through 3 inches of mud that a stock truck could go through. In other words, it's for nothing more than looks.

I know I personally know all of the things it takes to make a truck that low, and I don't see how that changes anyone's opinion. You say these people put their trucks that low only when they want them to as if that exempts them from judgement. We ask why the hell would anyone ever want to put their truck that low?
I get that it's a hobby that I will never understand same as some people don't understand why I'll drop thousands on fishing gear. But I still think is dumb.

frick. I was worried someone wouldn't like it. If only I could get my time machine working, I promise I would go back and change things so that one day, you would post a positive emoticon on tigerdroppings.com. FML.

Why the hell do you go fishing? You do know you can just go buy fish at stores and meat markets right? Why the hell would you spend so much time and money trying to catch your own?
My silly guess is that: You find it fun.
Am I right?
Any more brain busters?

A lot of the guys that do the full on laying frame/bagged trucks are fabricators/welders or body-shop guys and a good bit own their own shops or are close with someone who does. So some do it as a job, some as a hobby on the side - it's cheap for them bc they have access to the shop and materials already.
If you can get past the exterior looks, it's actually kind of cool to get a look at the beds of some of those trucks. There is some serious fabricating/engineering skill in them.

Fishing/providing food =/= lowering a truck to look "cool"
