Said best by JPLSU1981 right here:

Personally, I think it's an awful time to catch LSU.

If MissSt wants to end this streak, it's not going to be in DeathValley, LSU's SEC opener, at night, the week before we play cupcake NewMexicoState.

For them to end the streak, it's going to have to be an 11am kickoff, probably in Starkville, the week before we play Florida or Auburn....something along those lines where LSU "looks past" Miss St.

The way things are set up this year, LSU is definitely not "looking past" MissSt. All the people giving MissSt a chance actually just plays into the hands of LSU ... LSU will be ready, and really the only chance IMO that MissSt ever has of beating LSU is for LSU to not be ready.

As per the OP, good post. To this day I still believe the Tenn and MissSt overtime games in 2000 are the two games that turned this program around. And you are definitely correct, MissSt was a solid team at the time, winning over MissSt was definitely a "quality" win.

Good point by JP. We're neither coming off of nor looking ahead to a tough opponent, so any potential traps aren't in effect, especially at home. I'd feel a lot more nervous in Starkville, but not Saturday night in Death Valley.

Mississippi State is better than what they were last year. They are not better than Wisconsin. They are not better than LSU. They will come in and fight hard. But in the end, they are what they are. Losers! They will be hard pressed to beat any other team in the SEC West. The talent differential will hold them back and the later in the season it gets, the more they will wear down.

Was at both and man they were both awesome games. You could feel the crowd willing the team to pull it out. I was 14 and already hooked but those games took my passion for LSU football to the next level.
