Sort of cuts both ways, no?
I've always found the whole, 'we don't get enough vacation' meme a bit overblown anyway. You get what you want and are capable of setting yourself up for.

I think it's one of those things you have to see to understand. It's not cheaper options. It's a lot fewer options. You're totally limited. There's a reason everyone lives in a (relative to America) tiny house with a tiny car and a tiny "garden" backyard. You can only produce about 20 gallons of garbage a week per household, according to the gov't, so you'll need a compactor and you'll have to really watch what you do. If you want any kind of healthcare you must go through the government and have them decide for you. All kinds of random consumer goods are much more highly regulated and can only be found in certain spots with ridiculous taxes. Gas in super expensive. But hey, 6 weeks a year, you can get away from it.

Everyone? Because I'm pretty sure I've seen, first hand, plenty of country houses. They even have SUV's. I can find an affordable villa in Spain this second and buy a truck.

Somehow people survive these horrible conditions. Damn. I guess that 6 wk vacation helps them recuperate.

Do you mean have them assign you a date for treatment based on the severity of your illness? Triage? Yeah - I agree that it's not ideal. But, at the very least, every man, woman, and child goes to sleep at night every day of their lives not worrying about the OPTION of treatment. The result? Treatment, just depending on the timeline. And I'm pretty sure that you still have the option to seek private treatment on your own accord.

Money, money, money, moneyyyyyy. Moneyyyy.

To their credit (if we're discussing europe), at least public transportation isn't a disaster for the most part.
Honestly, I just wish there was a movement in this country to start rewarding some of the hardest working people in the world with just a little more vacation time. But, given our culture, it's a pipe dream. There will always be people clinging to this idea that if you want more vacation time, you just need to work harder.
I'll never understand the global attractiveness of the US to a foreign special skills professional that might offer invaluable knowledge to one of our hospitals or technology firms. Should I work 50 weeks a year in the US, putting in 80 hours a week? Or should I work 46 weeks a year in some other country?
Obviously people have different priorities in life. I understand that. I just think there are loads of people in this country who would be happier and healthier, with more stable family environments, if we ever got lucky enough to go down that path.

I literally had to set down my Mocha Frappucino to respond to you through my Iphone while driving my vehicle on a paved road.

To many, it's opportunity. Some folks just can't quite grasp that.

Consumer good can be used for anything really. I'm just glad I have the option of using them, rather than wearing water bottle flip flops in the desert searching for the next mud puddle to drink out of before I die of thirst.
We are lucky enough to be in the lucky sperm club called America. Enjoy it how you want to.

When people are sufficiently happy, they make themselves become miserable again.

It's obvious.
Because of women.
Because of women.

I mean, it's a legitimate point.
99% of the words that come out of any liberal minded person's mouth are words of complaining, bitching, moaning, groaning, negative crap about this country and anyone who doesn't agree that America is a shite hole that should be blown to Mars.
Hell, it's the MO of most liberal politicians to make people feel unfairly treated, discriminated against, shitty, bad about themselves, etc...
For as much shite gets talked about how "awful and evil" America is, it's one of the best (if not THE best place) to live as a whole.
It's not about left vs right, but it does seem the left just spews negativity at people so often, that they start to really believed they are overly oppressed and unfairly treated and that just isn't the case.

Then go. But trust me, I've done the same thing, except in France, and it's not what I expected.
Even though they may have more vacation than us they still
have many more important problems in their life that they complain about.

The reason you don't understand the global attractiveness of the US to a foreign worker is because you never lived in a foreign country. Doctors in Europe are paid shite. They may have 5 weeks vacation but they'd rather come here and earn multiples more than what they earn there and forego vacation. If you don't understand that so be it.

Agree completely. Americans are greedy SOB's. Consume, consume, consume. It's unsustainable. We can't continue to prop up a way of life with endless consumption. It's unhealthy for a society to focus so much of its energy on money, materialism etc. We pay for it with rates of drug abuse, alcoholism, obesity and depression that are off the charts.

Bingo. Too many Americans equate happiness in life with stuff and keeping up with the Joneses. Because we have been conditioned since birth to believe in that bullshite. It's like a fish not knowing he is in water.

The barbarians certainly are at the gate.
