Interesting Quote from Todd Berry (ULM coach) regarding Les & recruiting

I was at an event where the coach Berry spoke to some boosters (no link). He said that Les Miles doesn't get enough credit for the recruiting at LSU. He said recruiting is all about facilities. He said that while LSU does have great facilities, they are not the best in the country. He said that the LSU facilities would rank in the top 25, but not the top 5-10. He said most LSU fans don't realize this.
He said LSU fans seem to expect a top recruiting class each year and figure they could do it with or without Les. He believes this is not the case and that Les should get much more credit than he does. He had some other things he said positive about Les, but this is the one I found most interesting.
One man's opinion, but I do think Berry is a good coach and sharp guy. I was curious to see the recruiting board's opinion on the matter.

CSB...
LSU could use an upgrade in facilities. The lure of playing in Death Valley is enough for most kids thou.

Hate some of these replies. Geez guys.
Thanks for posting. Todd Perry seems like a heck of a coach. He's right we don't have the best facilities but tend to get top 5 classes. Our coach is doing a fine job in recruiting.

Very nice guy and great coach.
From what I've heard our OPs building will be getting a makeover. Just in time too, imo.

One faculty that should sell a recruit no one else has and that's Tiger Stadium. The best venue in the country. And with the latest improvement how can't it be even better?

Facilities play a huge role, but recruiting is all facilities is hyperbole. One of numerous important factors though.

I think he makes a great point; but, although I realize baseball and football are apples and oranges, I was amazed when LSU played UCLA in Cali to see that their baseball facilities are almost laughably bad. Yet, they have stellar recruiting classes. Why? Players, especially Pitchers, know they will develop at UCLA. The draft numbers don't lie.
LSU football = NFLU even if we don't have a waterfall. Nobody is better at player development than the coaches at LSU. The numbers don't lie. That is why I think Les and his staff recruit so well. And it's much harder now because many La kids these days aren't that interested in playing for the home team (except for the cream of the crop LF and DM

Sounds like Todd wouldnt mind landing a job on the LSU coaching staff to me. He would probably make more money as an assistant there than he does now, which is the sad thing.

Ive said this for a while now. It's not as easy as people think. shite cincinatti has better facilities than we do. We have great ones dont get me wrong, but so do a bunch of other schools.

Our facilities should be second to none. We certainly make enough money. I don't mind paying through the nose for tickets and donations as long as the money is used to make sure the best product is put on the field. I am OK with the state not paying for athletics, but athletic dept. money should not have to be used to fund education. Most teams receive money from the state. Here the state receives money from the team.
