New Al Qaeda Branch Attacks Wrong Ship

One thing we should be grateful for is that apparently Al Qaeda wasted their best and brightest on 9/11/01, because ever since then they've tried to attack us with incompetent nincompoops - the shoe bomber, the underwear bomber, the Time Square bomber (who couldn't make gasoline explode), etc. This latest attack seems like it was carried out by the Three Stooges.

The first ever attack by the newly-announced Indian Subcontinent branch of Al Qaeda went really, really poorly. The attack launched last Saturday In Pakistan seems to have targeted the wrong ship.
Fighters of the Islamic terror group branch that was unveiled two weeks ago had planned to storm an American aircraft carrier at a Karachi port, but found a Pakistani Navy ship in its place, The Telegraph reports. The attackers suffered heavy casualties as the Pakistani Navy easily overpowered their attempt. Three of the Al Qaeda fighters were killed and seven were arrested according to Pakistani officials. Two Pakistani Naval guards were wounded.
"It was a complete failure, they did not do any kind of damage, some were captured and we caught more, seven so far and may be more to come. They were well-equipped and came with the intention of taking a ship into their custody but they were caught in the initial stages," an investigation source told The Telegraph.

Do they not think this would have been the same outcome had they stormed the American Carrier

Would have been worse, esp with Marines on board.

I'm surprised that Al Qaeda could find volunteers for this mission. I'll bet Mohamed Atta would have told Al Qaeda to go screw themselves if they had asked him to do this. Not that he'd be unwilling to sacrifice his life, obviously, but that he would be willing to waste his life when the mission had no chance of success. I wonder if these guys were inspired by the Somali pirates, and thought that hijacking an aircraft carrier would be as easy as hijacking a cargo ship.

Aircraft Carriers don't carry a MARDET anymore.

They thought they would seize an American aircraft carrier with a handful of men? Somewhere Mohammad has palm to forehead.

Wait
So their initial plan was to commandeer a United States aircraft carrier?

Yeah The squids would have to take care of it. And we know how those guys are.
I mean, ASUROB and TigerinATL were in the Navy.

The fact that these guys couldn't tell the difference between a Pakistani frigate and an American aircraft carrier tells me that they aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.

I doubt very much that they thought they were attacking an American aircraft carrier. The Pakistani Navy has been the target of IED's in Karachi before and the English language paper in Karachi stated that the attack was on the Pakistan Navy Dockyard, not on any particular vessel.

I think they stopped back in the late 90's when carriers quit carrying nuclear weapons.
I've there was talk of bringing them back. The Corps will disappear if they don't get back to their Naval roots.
