I agree with your latter statement but disagree with the initial one. If you watched tape of our pass protection on the interior last year and you're saying that then it's difficult for me to take you seriously. Alexander and Turner were/are NFL OL starting caliber football players. Yet we routinely and regularly gave up middle pressure. Porter is extremely challenged by transmitting his knowledge of what defensive lineman are doing to him into the physical action required to stop it.
Translation: He may know the calls. But he can't execute.
If we cannot pass protect then we will not be effective. If you think Porter is serviceable in that department, then we agree to disagree. At the very best, one can say that Porter has an unlimited ceiling for improvement based on the tape. But saying he's superior is to ignore the way he played when we passed the ball.
I think Grimes can help improve him. But anything more than saying the jury is out on Porter is really stretching if not outright making it up as you go.
