Serious question: Why were the campus gays and lesbians (Spectrum) offended by the banner? Why are gays/lesbians offended by all mention of what gay sex actually is?

Is is because saying that he is getting the D makes him out to be whorish?

If you said that about a woman, that she is "getting the D" that would be offensive. Is it because it describes the act or because it makes it look like he is whoring around or because we should not talk about such things out in the open? Or, is it because his sexuality was mentioned?

I am not saying that they SHOULD NOT have been offended. It was a stupid, crass sign and the Dekes should stop it. They are morons. But, I often wonder why people are offended when they are offended. What was it about the sign that offended them? It gives insight into how to handle things in the future.

Our country is mortified of sex. On both sides of the coin (gay and straight).

When you throw the gay factor into the pot, it's a free-for-all of outrage.

I'm a huge proponent of gay rights and gay marriage, but this whole thing is a fricking joke. People need to lighten up.

I'm not saying there was anything wrong with the banner, but the "offensive" nature of it was due to portraying Sam Houston "getting the D" as a bad thing and comparing that to gays. I thought the banner was funny, but I could see how some may get offended if the intentions behind the banner were mean spirited.
