Spain has a lot of talent and has 3 very very good NBA big men.
The US did not bring any of its biggest stars.
The US has not played particularly well if you've watched the games.

The US doesn't dominate the World Championship (err.. World Cup) like they do with the Olympics.
It wouldn't be a surprise based on past results if the US didn't win the gold.
