Let's talk scheme and LB play

Seems like we run a lot of 4-2-5 defense and I started thinking about this last year on how it affects run D. I feel like and I may get laughed at, Lofton is not elite, but just below elite level. Hawthorne imo is solid. Prob with 4-2 defense is it puts LBs in a tough position. Yea, Bush and Vacarro might normally be hard hitting safeties, but they are still safeties and not LBs. Basically, I'd take Harylson over any safety in the league against obvious run.
In a 3-4 or 4-3 you obviously have 3 or 4 LBs where saints usually stick with just 2 on the field and I've noticed it forces them to bite on play action pretty bad since they are already in a tough position to stop the run. I really feel like we have very good LBs and wish we would stick to a 3-4 more often. Do y'all think this may be what has affected our run D some since Ryan got here?
On a side note, Byrd making 2 impact plays, fumble and big tackle on 3rd down while playing so far off line is pretty good. Once RR starts putting him in better positions to make plays the sky is the limit.
Inb4ok I'll tell coach Ryan.
Eta: Yes I realize pass D was problem Sunday but I'm kinda hinting towards our LBs seem out of position a lot in coverage.

Rob played a 10-1 Sunday

No, just no.
He's been terrible and was terrible again on Sunday.
Our run defense was solid the 2nd half of last year. We may have given up a 10 yard run here and there, but we also forced a lot of negative plays. Held the NFL's leading rusher to 77 yards on 21 carries

I think he looked bad in pass D(which is supposed to be his strength) but he made some nice tackles in the hole Sunday. He did get a couple nice PBUs.

He had 0.
And he is better against he pass than he is against the run. I'm sure PFF would confirm this. He's terrible against the run and not good against the pass either. He's been a huge disappointment and won't be on the team next year

I guess I should have said he had good coverage on 2 plays I remember that he kept receiver from catching the ball. Maybe he didn't actually knock the ball away but held good coverage. Yes, he got beat several times also.
I agree he won't be on team next year

Yea we ran a lot of cover 2 which I've never noticed us run in the past. I'm mostly talking about the LB play in a 4-2-5 alignment.

Another thing, Haralson did play a lot last year in run situations. He had 373 snaps.
Although we barely played him in the playoffs

Is a black version of S. Shanle solid against the run and liability passing game. why and the hell was he on a slot receiver?

Our linebackers suck in space. Lofton and Hawthorne are traditional 4-3 tacklers they fill. Running a 4-2-5 calls for strong athletic linebackers that can scrape read and cover their arse . For example someone like Lavonte David fits perfectly in a 4-2-5, Shazier, Denzel Nkemdiche is 5'10 225 playing inside lb at ole Miss. We need athleticism

He's much better against the pass and awful against the run

We just need more athletic linebackers

But he's well below average for both.

I saw the Ravens were considering trading Arthur Brown. I wonder what it would take to get him.

We really do miss Harper.
And how often did you see 4 guys on the line?

There was a lot of 3 man fronts last night but still I would say mostly 4. Last year mostly 4 also, especially 1st and 2nd down.
