This. I went to the A&M game on Sat and wore neutral colors. Was asked why I wasn't wearing Aggie gear and told the truth; was actually thanked by one couple for not trying to pass myself off as something that I'm not.

You can get tickets outside the stadium. For 2007 Florida we got 7 tickets outside the stadium for no more than $100 each. Though not all of the tickets were in the same section. The trick is to wait until the gates open. That's when people start getting rid of tickets right outside the stadium. I did the same thing at the 2009 Florida game. Got two tickets together lower bowl 35 yard line for $100 each.
This sounds too good to be true. Obviously there's a good deal of risk with this strategy. Would other posters recommend a similar course of action? We don't mind splitting up.

Definitely risky, but I'd like your chance. There are always people trying to drop tickets, and the closer to kickoff the cheaper the tickets get

If you walk around with a cooler you will not have trouble finding friends.

Absolutely wear your Bowling Green stuff, but if you are in BG shirts throw on an LSU hat or use an LSU koozie to get the VIP treatment. That way there will be no confusion that you are NOT a gump.
Some LSU fans are not as educated and sophisticated as those of us who post on tRant and "those types" may see non-LSU colors and belligerently wish death upon you.
While drunken Tigahs are filled with hatred for alabama, bammers are filled with insanity for alabama. First lesson: Beware teabagging gumps. Do you have any historic trees on your campus? Nevermind, don't answer that. Most importantly, always be "fan enough" when your team loses otherwise you are literally putting your life at risk around the rowtodds.
Post again before you come to get good recommendations for food and bars and tailgates.

I've been buying tickets outside the stadium since 2004. The key is to just walk around the stadium about 45 to 30 min. before kickoff. The closer it gets to kickoff the farther the prices will drop. I found tickets to the Bama game in 08, 10. Fla. in 07 and 09. Ark in 2011 etc. You can find some for under $100. It's all about finding the right person like an old man who doesn't care about making more money than face value. He just wants to sell his extra ticket and get in the stadium. But like other posters have said, it will be hard to find 3 or more tickets together. It's like finding a 4 leaf clover. Good luck.

A lot of times, at tailgates you might score some tix...a lot of peeps get to tailgate and decide to sit (too drunk) there instead of going to game...maybe not so much with da gumps coming in, but, there is a chance...
And if you haven't booked rooms in BR by now, you may need a sleeping bag and a tent...

Old post but decent start on making plans for your trip.
Where to eat:
Food is something that everyone has a different taste for, but I will give you what I think are some of the great places to eat if you want a “taste of Baton Rouge”
Chelseas – best calamari poboy around. Very artsy place that has good live music late night. A great spot but watch out, they are closed on Sunday.
Walkons – This may be the best place to hit up on a gameday weekend. In the shadows of Tiger Stadium on Burbank it was started by two walkon basketball players. They have crazy tent parties on football weekends and have some good food. Stuffed burger and cheese fries are favorites of mine.
Mike Andersons – Mike Anderson is also a former LSU athlete who has had the staple LSU area seafood restaurant for over 30 years. They are located at 1031 West Lee Drive and have a bar that can get fun and rowdy the night before a game.
Parrains – Parrains is similar to Mike Andersons and has great seafood, or if you aren’t going to Chimes (see below) for Sunday brunch, look at Parrains to a spot with great food and a really good brunch menu.
Chimes – Known for its around the world beer selection and Sunday brunch, this spot at the North Gates of LSU is a great spot for burgers, seafood, and other creole menu items. Has been an LSU monument since it’s opening in 1983 and shares the building with the Varsity Theatre which holds some of the best shows in Baton Rouge.
Sammy's - Known for its crawfish and other creole dished, Sammy's is a staple to Baton Rouge dining. Always packed make sure to get their early if you go here.
Tsunami – If you’re staying downtown and want a great view and some good sushi, hit up Tsunami. Has a beautiful view of the mighty Mississippi River and has a fun bar area as well.
Other Notables:
Rauls burgers, Superior Grill, Jubans, Kona Grill, Zeeland St, Georges, Pluckers, Pasttime, and Louies.
Where to Drink
Age obviously is a big issue when finding the right bar for you so I have put preferred ages in each bar’s description.
Walkons – (All Ages) Walkons is first here because it is a family friendly place where you can find anyone drinking from 21 to 101. They have great parties for LSU games, and is a great place if you have the kids with you.
Bulldog – (21–40) This bar has one of the largest selections of beer in the city. It has a fun atmosphere and will be a great place to check out on Thursday, Friday or Saturday.
Freds in Tigerland – (21-30) Setup as one of the best College bars in BR, Freds is best known for their Freds Free Drinks (FFD) on Fridays from 8-10. $10 cover gets you free topshelf liquor for the two hours (drinks are free but not the service. Tip your bartenders). A place where you will not feel out of place even if you are a few years out of college.
Bogies – (19-26) This fratty bar is a favorite of many LSU football players and they can be seen here after a day game. It is much more of a college environment, but on Friday before games it is their “Old School” night and the crowd can get much older than college aged (24-35).
Happys/Roux House/Huey’s/ Boudreaux and Thibodaux – (21-60) These downtown bars on 3rd street are a great place for those almost any age to go for live music, drinks, and a good time. You can walk down the street with drinks and enjoy bands, patio’s and great drinks.
Reggies – (18-21) This bar is best known for their ridiculously drunk customers including (86 girl, bar handjob guy, and naked asscrack shot dude). Known as the Freshman bar for LSU students this bar can give you a great taste of what chaos LSU can bring.
Chimes/Varsity – (21-40) These two establishments bring the party right next to campus located at the North Gates of LSU. Chimes has a great beer selection and the Varsity shows some of Baton Rouge’s most premier bands.
Other notables:
Other Tigerland Bars (18-23), Tops(18-23), Chelseas(21-40), Georges(21-101), Ivars(21-40), Duvics(21-40), Pluckers(18-50).
Tailgating spots:
Tailgating is an LSU staple. Make sure you get to campus early, very early. It is a must on gameday and is what LSU is best known for when it comes to gameday experience. While I will give a few spots and activities to hit, the entire campus is filled with people and a great time can be had anywhere!
Parade Grounds – Looking for Fraternity tailgates? Look no farther. You will see more sundresses than you previously thought possible. Beautiful women, loud music, and kegs are a staple of the parade grounds.
Indian Mounds/Quad – This area is filled with old family tailgates where no one is afraid to share their beer or food. Good music and great food pop their heads up at the Indian mounds.
RV Lot – Some of the most devoted LSU fans can be found in LSU’s RV lots. They bring music, food, alcohol, and normally some fun festivities.
Walkons – Walkons comes up again as a place to start your day. There is some parking around if you get there early enough and walking toward the stadium from walk-ons will bring you through some great tailgate spots.
Mike’s Cage/Band down Victory Hill – Head to the stadium about 2 hours before the game to see Mikes habitat and the band march down Victory Hill. It will give you chills Tigerfan or not.
Other Activities:
If you are making Baton Rouge a few days trip and are looking for some other things to do there are plenty of things to do for everyone.
New Orleans – If you are coming in Thursday I suggest you checking out New Orleans and the French Quarter. So many great things to do there I’ll let you look for that information yourself.
Baton Rouge Zoo – One of Baton Rouge’s hidden secrets is their Zoo. A really inexpensive, fun family activity that could be great before heading home on Sunday or on a Friday afternoon if you get to Baton Rouge early.
U.S.S. Kidd WWII Navy Destroyer Museum – The USS Kid was a WWII ship that is docked in Baton Rouge. The area holds a few interesting museums that could be a great activity for a Friday afternoon or Sunday.
Perkins Rowe – Bringing the wife and kids and don’t know what to do? Perkins Rowe has shopping, a movie theatre, bars, tons of food, and a great little park to enjoy a nice evening.
l'auberge Casino – The new Casino to Baton Rouge could become one of Baton Rouge’s biggest attractions. To go along with their casino they have planned for great pool parties, shows, and concerts to be part of the experience.
LSU Lakes – Want to see what South Louisiana looks like? Go walk around the lakes with your SO/Wife and kids around dusk to see how beautiful and peaceful Baton Rouge can be.
Concerts – Though Baton Rouge Music scene isn’t New Orleans or anything, they have tons of places that play live music. Varsity Theatre, Sullivans Ringside on Thursdays, Chelseas on Friday and Sat, Superior Grill on Thursdays, downtown at Boudreaux and Thibodaux’s and Roux House, and any of the Tigerland bars.
LSU Campus While the campus is closed to car traffic before 4:30pm on Friday, it is a great place to walk through or wait till the afternoon to drive thru. Styled in a manner reminiscent of the architecture of the Italian Renaissance, many of the buildings achieve this effect with stucco over masonry construction and similar features. Check out Sorority row for some beautiful Co-eds and check out each of LSU’s great athletic facilities.

I agree with all of the others that suggest wearing Bowling Green gear and telling people that you traveled for the game and experience.
I met several Sam Houston State fans this last weekend who couldn't believe that the tailgating setups went on for miles across the campus. Thousands of set ups. There was plenty of beer and bourbon last weekend for everyone. The Sam Houston fans described having to turn down most of the food and drinks they were offered because they reached their limits early in the day. As BGSU fans, you will do even better.
As for tickets, start now. Check the LSUSports.net ticket marketplace and you may get some at face value. Also check DandyDon ticket marketplace, and the board for tickets here. Keep on it. As soon as acceptable tickets list, get them. But be careful, the Alabama game invites internet scammers from who knows where trying to scam money. It will be the hardest ticket of the season, especially for you in a remote place.

I agree with everyone saying you should wear your Bowling Green colors. People will definitely stop you to chat and offer you food an drink.

Bring a crave case of White Castles and you can come to my tailgate.

A lot of people in here have know idea what they're talking about when it comes to tickets outside the stadium. I always wait to buy them and have never paid more than $50 for a single ticket. That includes Alabama and South Carolina in 2012. Yes, single tickets are cheaper than pairs or groups, but I think you could still find them for under $200 outside the stadium.

This, wear BGSU shirt with an LSU hat. Tell everyone what you are here for and you will be treated well. Have fun, should be a great night.

I'm warning you now yankee. If you attend the LSU Bama game, live sports will never be the same for you unless there is another Diamondback Yankee world series. I recommend that you stay in New Orleans Friday night at the Monteleone Hotel on Royal St. Eat at Mr. B's, and listen to NewOrleans music on Frenchman St. On gameday, I would arrive on campus four hours before kickoff wearing a LSU hat, and a BGSU shirt. You will have a wonderful time, and the LSU and Bama fans will welcome you with southern hospitality. Another warning, you will become a Bayou Bengal fan for life. You will need to buy tickets right now, and pay whatever it takes. You should try to purchase tickets from sections 304 thru 300, 101-106, or anywhere in the north endzone. Do not, I repeat, do not buy in upper decks. I mention these sections so you are closer to the band. email me and I will try to help with tickets. moleguru@hotmail.com
