Charlie spent some time with a motorcycle club prepping for the show. The president's son (also in the club) wore white tennis shoes. He was later killed in some kind of situation that didn't involve the club (road rage or something). The character Jax wears the shoes as a tribute to him. Charlie had become friendly with him.
He said he catches a lot of shite about the shoes from fans. Same as here...no biker would wear white (or any color) tennis shoes. His response was they wear whatever is comfortable for them. That kid (and Jax) like white tennis shoes.

I just want this show to end, way to make your main character an unlikable douche
This. Then he goes and caps the guy and claims he admitted to ratting, guessing that will come back to bite him in the arse once the true rat is revealed. This season just blows because there's no one to really root for, just a ton of pointless killings.
