Don't get me wrong. The cartels are primarily catholic I assume. Isis is Muslim base. Wouldn't that be conflicting?

Teaming up may not be an accurate description. More like employing or contracting for trafficking services.

Seems unlikely to me. I would think cartel guys are not easy to set appointments with.

This is a little over the top. The cartels threaten the local Mexican press to not publish the murders or hits that they carried out so there won't be any heat brought down on them by the Federalies. This would have the border locked down indefinitely thus ruining their business.

The cartels have everything to lose by doing this and little to gain. Operating with a terrorist organization in order to carry out attacks against the US opens the cartels up to being targeted by the United States as national security threats. Instead of simply battling corrupt Mexican authorities, they could see American military and intelligence operations conducted against them directly. Likewise it would stand to only further increase demand in the US to increase border security measures, complicating their very profitable narco trade.

Basically, they'd have to be idiots.

I think its absolutely possible that some members of ISIS or any other terrorist organization with enough money could find safe passage across the border. This does not mean that a cartel is joining or teaming up with ISIS. A smuggler that acts independent or not absolutely directed by the cartel could do it. I agree with most of the comments that it seems unlikely that a major drug supplier would want to risk the heat. That being said even if Obama had undeniable proof that terrorist were penetrating the border I dont think he would shut it down.
