I just got through watching the first few minutes and that spot on the first LSU punt was a joke?
I'm glad someone else saw this. I had the perfect angle sitting in the end zone lower level and told my cousin the ref screwed us by at least 10 yards.

It wasnt simply that a "light switched on"....its bc of coaching adjustments relative to the opposing scheme and the strengths and weaknesses, therein.
Shouldn't you be prepping your team, Nick, instead of posting on a message board?

The play calling in the first half was fine. The mistakes were because everything was just a second off or a few inches off. If some of those plays would have connected, LSU would have had big gains. They were close.
In the second half, we connected.
Wisconsin did blow LSU off of the ball some, but they are a good team too. Everything that went well for them was not just because of LSU mistakes. They made some things happen.
The switch did not just flip on. LSU fixed their mistakes. If LSU plays in the second half like they did in the first, LSU wins by 3 TDs. Wisconsin will be a good team this year.

They really couldn't. Watch what we did from the third on.
quote:they wont look at coverages, ever. Football is a one dimensional game, run more, pass more. That is all they see.
We absolutely sold out to stop the run. We were in Zero or One coverage multiple times

"If Wisconsin had a mediocre QB, they would've one", I would agree with you. We wouldn't be able to go all out on the run against a team with any passing attack.

couple of LSU "fans" this morning are predicting "6 or 7" losses

Everyone seemed to contribute to the deficit we found ourselves in. But everyone seemed to contribute to our erasing it.

DEAR Burt Reynolds, You are a douche bag who probably thinks Les Miles wins with Nick Sabans talent. If by some miracle you are a true LSU Tiger Fan then bring something, ANYTHING, positive to this board.

hopefully the second half team is the one we'll be seeing more of this season. that team came to play.

I don't know why this got downvotes. They had no answer for Gordon, luckily he inexplicably left the game. The backup was nowhere as explosive and led them to pass more, which led to turnovers.
He didnt leave the game. I believe he was the last RB to get a carry.

If Wisconsin would've kept running the ball, they would've won

I dont get when people say if they didnt stop running on us....
LSU shut them down after the first possession of the second half. A light switch kicked on and our Run D showed up making ALOT of tackles at the line or behind it!
Wisconsin was getting in the second level of our D in the first half on alot of the running plays. We fixed that at half and hit them early!
Exactly, Wisc was running a lot of power football that LSU just manned up and put the stop on. They would run one or two TE's, run a man in motion and run the ball to the motion direction. LSU started stuffing these in the second half an also started containing the ends as well as the backside to guard against the cutback.
If you take away the two big mistake plays on the jet sweep and the MG run up the middle then Wisc only has 200 yds offense. On the jest sweep Kwon and Daneille screwed up and went the same way and left a gaping hole.
All in all Wisc started passing because LSU started putting them "behind the chains" in second a long and third and long.
After the 63yd play to open the half Wisc's ypc went to complete shite including Gordon's. He ran the ball three more times for one yard net gain.

This is going to be an excellent team once they all get on the same page - which I think will happen sooner rather than later.
I don't disagree with that, but it's hard to tell much of anything from that game the other night because Wisconsin's QB was so terrible and because of the injuries Wisconsin had on defense.
They had no passing game at all. Is that why we were able to stop the run? We will see what this defense has when we face a team with a decent offense.
They lost two defensive linemen from what I recall as being a thin defensive line to start with. Is that why we were able to run the ball in the second half?
I have to assume that every SEC contender will have a better QB and will be a deeper team than Wisconsin.
That's not to say we won't win the SEC. This wasn't a pretty game for LSU, but it was the first game of the year. I'm just glad the woeful first half and 3rd quarter didn't result in a loss. Against a team with a competent QB and deep defense, we probably would have lost.

Here's the game in a nutshell:
LSU didn't load the box to stop the run against Wisconsin until the second half. The long run to start the half was fluke-ish, but congrats to Gordon for a great run. Wisconsin would have had to settle for a field goal if not for a qb scramble on 3rd and long. When LSU finally loaded the box, Wisconsin was screwed. That's why they tried passing, because it's hard to run against 8 men.
Did I say it's hard to run against 8 men? Wisconsin, on defense, started the game by loading the box to stop the run. LSU remained stubborn and tried to ram it's head into a brick wall until falling behind by 17 in the 3rd quarter. All it took was a few passes to back the defense off a tad, then Wisconsin was unable to load the box and LSU found some running lanes.
This should be a huge signal to Les Miles, open the game up early, and the offense won't struggle for 3 quarters. But if the last 6 years (minus 2013) has taught us anything, we rely on defense and special teams to win for us.

I agree....first half looked horrible. Second half we looked unstoppable running the ball.
I hope you're right. We didn't sniff running the ball until the NG got hurt. Our offensive line was suspect up until that point.

I agree. The screen passes alone could have did some damage if caught. That one that LF dropped-- I swear that dude had open field in front of him.
I saw this in the replay, as well.
We at least get a first down in one of our first drives.

A shorter summary:
We didn't figure out Wisconsin was one-dimensional on offense until the 2nd half.
We didn't figure out we were two-dimensional on offense until the 2nd half.
