I stopped at 2009 because Hatch and Lee split time against App. St. (FCS formerly Div I-AA).

While Jennings Comp% is low, his other numbers compare very favorably to season openers for former LSU QBs. His Comp% might be somewhat excused by the high YPA. (There were certainly some drops last night, but every QB has to suffer through some drops.)

Jennings has the #2 Rating, the #1 YPA, tied for #2 TDs and TD%, and the #2 Yards.

Surprisingly, his numbers exceed all of Mett's numbers (except Comp%) for a home game against North Texas.

Significantly, Jennings threw ZERO interceptions.

He had a rough start but 0 interceptions is a major plus. He's careful with the football and sails it way OB and is patient and very accurate at times. That being said, I hope the game slows down for him and he continues to grow. Wiscky will beat a lot of teams this year.

Nice post, makes a great point. Tired of hearing how "terrible" the couch QBs on TR think he played. I actually think he managed the game well, and even got unlucky at times. Screen pass execution is concerning, but it wasn't always on the QB.

Good post, some additional observations:

- great pass to Smith that was dropped
- three incompletions were on screen attempts, which should be correctable
- had a couple of throw aways
- deep passes to Dural and Quinn that were not caught were good throws, just better coverage
- no passes that were close to being picked

He threw the ball pretty well and had nice touch. He only missed on a couple of throws, a big improvement from Iowa. I know they like rolling him out, but some of his best passes were in the pocket with his shoulders squared

His completion percentage would have been better, but Smith dropped a pass and a couple screens were thrown behind Fournette.

Bad news: 42% is low.
Good news: A few of the incompletions were screens, and should be very correctable.

Judging a QB's stats after 1 game is a little like judging a starting pitcher's ERA after 1 game. Could be 0.00, could be 30. Tells little.

I'll take 2 TDs, 0 INTs and a W all day long.

Jennings actually played very well. He showed he has a pretty damn good arm. The ball he dropped on Dural when he was rolling to his right was an absolute dime.

The only throw he struggled with consistently was the screen pass. He threw the ball a little too hard. That will get fixed.

As far as the completion percentage, there were a couple of drops and the play that Fournette got tackled on the screen. I mean if DeSean Smith doesn't drop that pass and that guy isn't able to tackle Fournette behind the LOS, Jennings would have completed over 50% of his passes and would have thrown for 300 yards or more. Considering this was his 2nd career start, it really wasn't bad. In fact, it was fairly impressive and encouraging.

People that are bitching about the play calling are retarded.

+High YPA
+Good overall yardage
+Two touchdowns and a 2-pt conversion pass
+No interceptions
+Couple balls dropped that shouldn't have been
+Had some good scrambles (one led to 80yd TD pass)

-Low completion percentage

The anemic offense in the first 3 quarters had more to do with the horrible o-line play, non-existent run game, and conservative play-calling than it did Jennings.

stats are overrated.

Looks at this it would make sense that Jefferson would be the best QB in this bunch and Lee the worst, but that is far from the truth.

I think a far more intresting and more importantly relevant stat would be 2014 SEC Qb stats comparison for season openers.
