for once I agree with Rex. The most a 9 year old (especially a girl) should be shooting is a pump 20 gauge and 243 youth model rifle.

I am sure you were a huge kid at 9 so I guess you could make an exception for 9 year olds with the arms of a 16 year old, but there really isn't a good reason to give a 9 year old this type of gun.
I have no idea what your first sentence and the rolling eyes emoticon is supposed to mean. I was a pretty small kid, actually. Played point guard and was usually one of the smaller players until high school. Certainly skinny.
I had ZERO issues firing sub machine guns at 12 or 13.
A 9 year old who was small, uncoordinated or afraid is a bad combination to fire these kinds of weapons. "There is no good reason" is a pretty subjective and pointless addition to the discussion. According to many on the left, "there is no good reason" for lots of the gun freedoms in this country.

You had ZERO reason to be firing sub machine guns at 12 or 13 and not enough intelligence to know it. Even if a 9 year old is physically capable of controlling a Uzi he/she can't possibly appreciate all the ramifications of its use.

9 year old is too young. 12-13 depending on the maturity of the person is fine.

You can think there is no good reason for something and not want to outlaw it.
I think there is this phenomena among gun rights supports to sort of overcompensate for liberal rhetoric. That is to say, we see them go on about scary black cop killing baby murdering weapons of war and then we go "nah man they're totally safe guns don't kill people, people do" and we can lose our healthy respect of what these tools can do when mismanaged.
There is no reason for a 9 year old girl to fire an automatic weapon and parents should not expose her and the people around her to risk for no reason. Give her 5 more years or something, break her in on other weapons. I just can't figure out the reason they did this and "because she can" is not legitimate with kids... they "can" do a lot of things.

I had more firearm intelligence at 12/13 than you ever will in your adult life. Kids hunt sand shoot guns all the time, Rex. I know that chaps your arse but tough shite.

Thanks for your philosophical objection. It's especially rich coming from someone that said a man deserved to die for teaching a kid to shoot a gun.

Are you saying 9 year olds shouldn't be using Uzis? Because I agree with you there. But is that the only point you were trying to make with this thread?
And if it is, why post the thread here?

quote:When I said "I wouldn't say "get what you deserve" but it has to be pretty unsafe to put a fully automatic uzi in the hands of a 9 year old, no matter how close you are. " I was saying that it was unsafe for the instructor to allow a 9 year old to hold and fire the UZI on automatic even though he was standing right next to her. As for the rolling eye thing it was in response to your thinking you would be able to handle such a gun at 9 in spite of your obvious physical limitations at that age. As a kid you might think it was fun but when you grow up you should realize how dangerous it was.

quote:I don't understand how you could state that it was a bad combination in your first sentence and then call the comment "no good reason" pointless and subjective. Obviously you are worried about gun freedoms overall but you should have to admit there is a line between responsibly handling a gun and being reckless.

I didn't use, "just because she can" and I even specifically said that it in some instances and certainly can be irresponsible or negligent. I don't know all the details of this incident, family, etc. to blankety say "there is no good reason" for kids to fire an automatic weapon though is a worthless argument.

This sounds like a lot of straw man bullshite to me. Conservative gun rights activists are usually virulent about safety measures and have plenty respect for the danger of firearms.
