they're having a ton of accidents because drivers keep making the maneuvers they used to be allowed to do. the accidents are not because of the new intersection; they'd be having them anyway. so since it was partly done to make a safer intersection, there's no way in hell they're going back to the old way.

No. See your statement above. More accidents happen now than before due to the aforementioned reason. People don't understand the new intersection, and some are stubborn and hate the added inconvenience caused by it (these cause wrecks too by misusing the intersection). Either way, more accidents are happening post-intersection change.

it has become more dangerous due to people not using it properly, for whatever reason (ignorance, stupidity, or stubbornness).

For the record, I'm not blaming DOTD for these accidents. I am blaming the rule-breakers. I am just explaining the rule-breakers' thought processes.
