re: QB Play In 2014 - Better or Worse Than 2011?

JJ played well in every game in 2011 except the last 2 where he was abysmal
We converted 5 of the third downs we attempted to gain through the air including a TD and PI in the endzone that puts the ball on the 2. That is outstanding.
He had 5 drops and another 3 balls that hit the receivers hand. He had another incompletion on a throw away.
He had a 45 yard gain taken away by a holding penalty. We were up by so much that he wasn't asked to throw the ball after the 8 minute mark in the 4th
He managed that game very well, which was what he was asked to do.
It is idiotic to say that he didn't play well. He wasn't asked to put the team on his back like JR and Matt were.

Yes and he threw the ball 22 times as opposed to 13
Because he was putting the ball on point most of the game.

Both had subpar passing games, but both did no harm to the team.
We had 0 first downs in the 1st half of the SECCG. Miles said if the Honey Badger hadn't returned the punts, he would have put Lee in.

Like JL or like JJ, but one didn't shine in 2011 and one sucked as some like to pretend for whatever the reason. imo
Lee sucked for 1 quarter and never saw the field again. Jefferson was terrible for the last 8. Every QB goes through a rough patch. After the start of the 3rd quarter to the NC game, we should have gone with the other QB.

Jesus.
Oregon - 22
MSU - 27
WVU - 28
UK - 21
UF - 10 (JJ came back)
UT - 17
Auburn - 20
It was honestly one of the closest games of the season. We beat the crap out of everyone but Bama and took a lot of shots downfield.
Is that really all you have to say after every stat I posted in that video.
Will you admit after watching the video that he played well in the game?

Was he gonna improve on his 1 td 7 int he had against Bama , for his career?
The only success any team had against Bama, offensively, was with a running qb able to run the option.

We were so good defensively and running the ball, the passing game was open all day. Even then we still didn't throw that much, but when we did, we were very good. After TGOC, we had a new QB and the passing threat went away (not to mention the offensive creativity)

Better
Les is no longer meddling in the offense, and Cam is the best OC in the SEC.

He played serviceable. Neither qb was great.

Mett had 1 td and 5 ints vs Ole Miss in his career. That doesn't mean he shouldn't see the field against them.
I have no clue if it would have made a difference. The fact is that we couldn't move the ball at all. What we were doing was not working.
He couldn't do much worse than JJ did in that game with 53 yards through the air and 2 turnovers.

You think JJ's play against UGA and Bama was equal to JL's play against Oregon?
Lee led the SEC in passing efficiency. That is pretty damn good

In my opinion Lee should've remained the starter, but let's not act like Lee was great and JJ was just horrible. There are people that actually believe JJ was the worst qb ever at LSU and that's just not true.

I never said that. But come on. UGA and Bama's defense were both top 5. 2011 Bama may be the best collegiate defense ever.

Show me where all these drops are listed on the LSU stat sheet?
Against a team whose defense sucked, Lee had a passing efficiency of 95 but you want to bend over backwards to find some way to spin it to being a good game for him.
He had a bad game and we all should be happy that his team covered his arse. Same thing for Jefferson against Georgia.

better, by far. 2011 was a nightmare

I heard that Jefferson now leaves the games early and Lee helped vote for the parking fee increased last year.

And lolz at these two people related to JJ acting like he was anything other than dog shite. He was a terrible QB with the occasional decent game, and had one of the worst attitudes I've ever seen out of a "leader."

Lee was extremely efficient until the GOTC.

I posted the video of every pass he had in that game. He had 8 balls that hit his receivers hands and 4 to 5 of those are what I would consider drops. 8 passes that hit his receivers hands were not caught (not all were catchable IMO).
Feel free to watch the video that I posted.
Is this not a dropped ball? LINK
Good breakdown from the week of the game:
TD

I've backed my opinion up very well with statistics. All you've done is attack and offered nothing.
quote:

False. He converted 3rd downs, protected the ball, and made several passes downfield.
quote:
Same thing for Jefferson against Georgia.
Delusional. I've presented a clear argument for my case. Supporting my argument with statistics and observations that actually happened does not equal "bending over backwards".
I would consider bringing down Lee to make JJ look better against UGA to be "bending over backwards". LSU did not get a 1st down in the 1st half against UGA. Jefferson had 25 yards total.
We had 1 first down through the air against UGA.
Let us get some other opinions from some writers and the head coach:
LSU-Oregon
ESPN
quote:
ARLINGTON, Texas -- In a rare opening matchup of top-five teams, both missing key players, Jarrett Lee admirably directed LSU's offense in place of suspended quarterback Jordan Jefferson.
LSU coach Les Miles said. "I enjoyed Jarrett Lee's gutty effort. I liked how the offense did the things they needed to do."
Lee's 10th career start, his first since a win over Louisiana Tech in 2009, was far from spectacular. The senior completed only 10 of 22 passes for 98 yards, but didn't have an interception and appeared steady throughout the game.
quote:
Gameball goes to... Jarrett Lee Lee was steady for LSU, passing for 98 yards and a touchdown.
NOLA.com
quote:
LSU quarterback Jarrett Lee had a slow start that was attributed to several dropped passes by his receivers before completing 10 of 22 for 98 yards, which included a 10-yard touchdown pass to Rueben Randle in the second quarter.
quote:
"He did the things he needed to do to win,'' LSU Coach Les Miles said. "He made some plays that really needed to happen.''
Nola.com
quote:
As for Lee, it's obvious the coach admired the way his backup quarterback handled the challenge for a team battling ongoing distractions, how he stepped into the breach and, best of all, emerged practically mistake-free on a national stage.
quote:
Lee was just being Lee. He's no threat running the ball. He rushed twice Saturday for minus-four yards. Two of his finest downfield deliveries should have been caught. He completed 10 of 22 passes for 98 yards and one touchdown, with no interceptions, a performance given a passing grade by his head coach. Lee deserved it.
Dallas Newspaper
quote:
With erstwhile starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson suspended indefinitely, once-berated backup Jarrett Lee of Brenham ably directed the LSU offense on three consecutive second-half scoring drives, turning what had been a close, back-and-forth game into a runaway.
Lee's receivers left him with humble numbers at the end of the night -- 10 completions in 22 pass attempts, gaining only 98 yards. Hardly an aerial circus. But as many as four of his passes were dropped.
VS:
LSU-UGA
USA Today
quote:
Quarterback Jordan Jefferson, who was 2-for-8 passing for seven yards with two glaring misses of wide receiver Rueben Randle in the first half. He missed him short then he missed him long.
quote:
And the rest of the offense, which combined to total zero first downs and 12 whole yards in the first half. In the second quarter, LSU netted exactly one yard.
quote:
In the future when the offense struggles so much - such as against Alabama next month probably - LSU should consider putting Mathieu at quarterback in the "Honey Badger" formation or at receiver or tailback. He doesn't necessarily need blocking - just some space.
quote:
After a substitution penalty against Georgia gave LSU a first and five at the 21, Jefferson finally threw accurately to Randle for six yards and the Tigers' had their initial first down of the game 32 minutes in. The outnumbered LSU fans in the Georgia Dome let out a roar as if their team had just scored.
ESPN
quote:
a first half that featured some pretty revolting play by quarterback Jordan Jefferson. He was 2-of-8 passing for 7 yards and was getting eaten up in the pocket.
He overthrew and underthrew open receivers, while trying his hardest to turn the ball over with throws into double coverage.
ESPN
quote:
LSU won even though Jordan Jefferson completed only five passes and the offense totaled a mere 237 yards.
USA Today
quote:
In the SEC championship game against Georgia, the offense was so stagnant that many wondered whether Lee would finally get his chance to step back on the field and play the part of the hero.
Of course, Jefferson wound up playing nearly the entire game, despite going 5 of 12 for 30 yards through the air. LSU's defense and ground game took care of the rest in a 42-10 rout.
Pretty different responses
