I had a 4-wheeler that burned when my buddies shop burn. Was in for just a oil change. I was dead set on getting another 4-wheeler. My wife and buddy who owns the shop talked me into looking at the (at the time) new midsize Ranger.
Ended up buying it and so glad I did. So much more versatile than a 4 wheeler. It was only a $1k more than the 4-wheeler.

I've got a 800 Ranger and I wouldn't ever consider going back to a 4 wheeler. It's way too much more comfortable, hauls more, and will go through just as much rough stuff as a 4wheeler. You do however hAve to watch it on tight trails due to its width. Which is a plus at times too because now all those 4 wheeler rutted trails you'll be able to just straddle their ruts instead of fighting them. There's no doubt 4 wheelers can be great machines but there's only 2 cons to a SxS vs a 4 wheeler and that's cost and weight. You can get a 800 Ranger with power steering here for $8999 and that's no higher than lots of the bigger 4 wheelers and the weight is a non issue due to a Warn winch being on the front. Go with the Ranger bud. You'll never regret it[URL=LINK ]
