I've been checking out a few places for my son. I like this place and the all in one concept, room mate matching etc. The area is a little rough looking.
Can anyone help with this choice? Any recs?

Woodlands or Cottages
There are plenty of good places to live cheaper than these, or at least closer.

Does he have friends? Get him a house in lake beau pre.

But, that said, unless things have changed in the last 2 years, stay away from that side of campus

I don't think it's that far. Just down river road to campus.

You sound like a good parent, which means you want your son to have multiple sexual encounters. Two words: Gaslite IV

LBP is actually one of the best places to get to and from campus. Straight shot down River Rd, don't have to deal with Nicholson or Burbank traffic.

I guess not. Further than I was used to. I was able to bike to class my whole time at LSU, which was awesome.

University Edge is in the ghetto. The place hasn't even gotten to 50% capacity since it was built. It's shite.
Woodlands and Cottages are basically the same. Pretty nice places with bad arse club houses and tons of party. Pretty easy to meet friends or have something to do there (even though woodlands is starting to get a little more cloudy, aka hoodlands).
Lake Beau Pre is the best bet if he has friends and want to rent a house/condo. You get alittle clubhouse with a pool and tennis courts and a gated community if you do the townhomes. Also, super easy to get to campus and don't deal with traffic bc on river road.
Those 3 are the most popular places for students to live. There are other good options but those are definitely the best

I wouldn't live at either of those places. With two new complexes over there Ben Hur is about to become a huge clusterfrick.

My daughter is starting her second year there. Other than a guy jumping out a 3rd story window...no problems! I feel like it is as safe as anywhere.

It is definitely rough. I know nothing about those apartments, so I Googled their location. I'll drive through that area during the day, but I would be much more hesitant to do so at night.
If you must go with north of campus, I'd stick to the apartment complexes near State St/Highland Rd.

Hilarious they renamed it "the edge" even though it's the same old joint.
The "edge" of what? sanity?
I forgot what it was originally called

The Cottages are nice. My daughter and I saw the housing section. It had great extras. But, you pay for them. $850 per person per room. If you want the utilities package, $900. My daughter didn't want that, so we bought a new mobile home, found a great place for it. She's only 25 min. from campus and she has a house instead of an apartment. In 4 years, it can be rented, moved and rented, sold or she has a home after graduation. If you can, I would buy something. It gives you options down the road. Renting doesn't. But if you're from out of state, renting makes sense. A 1 bdr/1 bath apartment is going for $700 per month. That's over $33,000 for 4 years. Something to think about.

It used to be around 500 a month for the 5 person houses
