Omni Westside
This is not the Galleria area Omni. This is out past the beltway and is probably 20 miles from the stadium.

I think (and I could be wrong) that there's one stop beyond the stadium. You might want to check that. If so, you can park there, and you're problem is solved.
Appears that way... and there is a park & ride lot there. I think this will work perfectly!
this sounds like a good idea. we may drop our car off there early and then head up to midtown before returning for the tailgate and game.

Also DO NOT STAY NEAR THE STADIUM!!! I REPEAT DO NOT STAY NEAR THE STADIUM!!!
lol at you people who know everything. I'm staying on Kirby Drive at the Crown plaza 100 yards from the stadium. Why the frick would I not want to stay here? I will be in my room watching sportscenter while the rest of the stadium crowd is fighting over trains or traffic getting out of the parking lots.

Anyone know what it would cost using Uber from Katy to the stadium?
Posted on 8/28/14 at 9:42 am to dafuqusay
$40-54. That's 32 miles btw.

You sound like loads of fun. Maybe it's because most LSU fans who travel to games tend to be social, and enjoy taking over bars and restaurants before and after the Tigers win. By all means, if you are a homebody and only care about walking in and out of the stadium, more power to you. However, the party will be elsewhere.

I agree. The area around the stadium isn't "run-down dangerous part of town bad" or anything (hell, the Med Center is adjacent to the stadium area and West U and Bellaire just north of it), but there are few options as far as bars, restaurants, etc.
If you or anyone else staying near the stadium are good with all that, then the rest is pretty copacetic.

Questions about the metro:
Do I need cash to buy the tickets or will credit card work? Also, can I buy a round trip ticket or do I have to stand in line again to get a ticket back to downtown after the game?
Credit card is fine, but buy your ticket before boarding from the machine on the platform. There isn't a turnstile or gate to prevent you from just getting on. But Metro does do random checks.

what would be the best bars to hang out at for a few hours before the game on the metro rail line ? just 4 of us late 30s... planning on parking around the saucer

There is a bar right off the McGowen stop called mongoose vs cobra that is pretty awesome. I think there was a picture on the first page.

Last minute help please - just got tickets to the game unexpectedly, not familiar with the area, looking for hotel/travel advice - 2 vehicles, 4 family members, one coming from Dallas, three from BR, only 2 going to the game - limited hotel budget, I found a few decent hotels by Hobby - how would it be to park one car by the Fannin Station (last stop, 1 past Reliant)? Any other suggestions? Just going to/from the game, driving in Saturday noon, headed back Sunday noon - thanks

1) There's really not much parking around the Saucer. There is a TON of construction going on in that area. They just closed the parking lot across from Saucer to build a skyscraper and they are building new rail lines/stations around the block. Trust me - I live in it, and it's terrible. It also will likely never end. That being said, there's a garage at Fannin and Capitol that is probably your best bet.
2) The answer to your question depends on what time you're planning to start drinking. I would suggest Saucer as a starting point. Once it hits 3ish, I would walk toward the 300 block of main and stop at a couple bars on the way. The OP has a list.

Spending the day with the family in Houston on Sunday -- three boys (2 teens, one 10 year old) and my wife and I -- any good day activities for that profile of family? Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Geaux Tigers!!

The big concentration of Midtown bars are a few blocks off the metro. Right ON the MEtro is Mongoose v Cobra and Leon's Lounge. I prefer Leon's but that's at night, I'm not sure how the daytime atmosphere is. The McGowen stop is the one you want for midtown. Dogwood, Front Porch, Christian's, Hefley's, Pub Fiction, 3rd Floor and Celtic will all be decent spots on Saturday. They're a few blocks off of the rail. LAte 30's will be more than fine there. I'm early 30's and feel fine at those places on most nights.

The Zoo is on the way to the stadium along the rail. There's also some good museums in the Museum District, I've enjoyed both MFAH and Natural History (dinosaurs rule!)

Are there any bars or anything to do within walking distance of the stadium or no?
