I just dont get how a bad Graphics card could run all day long without crashing but as soon as I try to install windows it fails

It's not what I would expect to be a symptom of a bad GPU, but I've seen all kinds of weird symptoms resulting from the least suspect components. Monitors going black during Windows installation is not necessary "weird" for a bad GPU either. I always test everything if it's convenient enough. There have been times where I had to abuse Amazon's return policy because I lacked spare parts to adequately diagnose, so I would, for example, buy a motherboard and RAM, and return the RAM if the motherboard was the problem.

Speaking of RAM, how many passes did you run memtest?

Have you also tried different SATA ports for the hard drive?
