I believe it is plausible, and of course he should have a right to protect himself. However, there's no excuse for not immediately reporting that you had just shot and killed a man in self defense. As an officer of the law and a human being that is his responsibility.

wait, do you mean him reporting this to the media?

b/c there is cell phone video of backup coming to investigate...pretty quickly
