I agree that some of the teams don't fit in with the names of the divisions, but I'd rather them just change the division names than re-align the teams.

Quick google search and found these images back from 2011:

Things that don't make sense:
Indy in the South
Dallas in the East
Miami in the East instead of the South (yes I know they are on the east coast)

That second map is never going to happen. It's way to drastic of a change. Plus Cleveland Cincinnati and Pittsburgh legally have to be in the same division.
I have no problems with keeping divisions to save historic rivalries. This whole thread was more of a petty gripe than a call for real change.

Agreed. Also Dallas and Carolina need to switch divisions. frick traditional rivalries. The NFL should have divisions that make sense geographically.

Why? The NFL's played once a week. You need geographical divisional alignment in baseball, basketball and hockey. There are too many games in those sports, too much travel, not enough days off between games, etc. You really don't need to worry about that in the NFL.

That second map won't happen.
But if we're going strictly on geography, it should look something like this:
NFC West--Seattle, San Fran, Arizona, Dallas
AFC West--Oakland, San Diego, Denver, Kansas City
NFC South--New Orleans, St. Louis, Atlanta, Tampa Bay
AFC South--Miami, Jacksonville, Tenn., Houston
NFC North--Minny, Green Bay, Chicago, Detroit
AFC North--Cleveland, Indy, Pitt, Cincy
NFC East--Philly, NYG, Wash., Carolina
AFC East-- New England, NYJ, Baltimore, Buffalo

This kinda happens in every sport
Hell it happens right here in the SEC for the sake of preserving certain match-ups. Mizzou is more West than half the West teams.
But at least on a map it looks more like a pretty even slant across the South rather than all over the place.
