re: Can some of your OT Ballers tell me about living in Dallas?

Don't worry, there are plenty of non-Texans in Dallas. It's the least Texas city in Texas.

Not even close. Ever heard of Austin?
OP, don't live in Frisco unless you want to hit up some high school kids. All the other advice in this thread is good.

These days, Austin says hi.
You're late 20's or thereabouts, right? There's always uptown, as previously mentioned, but the M Streets, Knox-Henderson, and Greenville area are all better for that age group. Uptown has gotten a little too young for me recently. If you want to go uptown from the east side it's a $10-$15 lyft/uber.
As for living here, it's fun enough. Always something going on, and if you're looking for a change of pace Ft. Worth isn't far off.
In all of the areas I mentioned, you'll be relatively close to Love Field. DFW is 20+ miles outside of Dallas, so I'd recommend not even thinking about that.

Uptown. Live there, it's awesome. It's expensive.
No-brainer if you're a young, single professional

Might wanna limit that to the ones below Katy Trail.

Dont move to Dallas then. fricking traffic everywhere. I cant wait til I get the kids out of school where i can sell everything, move to the mountains where there is no traffic or cell phones.

Dallas is great. If you are looking for a younger crowd Uptown is the place. I would find out where your office will be located and then look if you are concerned about traffic. Half the d@mn roads in the city are under construction.

First part is obvious on paper. You stated this. Dallas is way better than fricking anywhere in Alabama.

While Austin is more progressive and Dallas is more conservative, Austin is still the epicenter of a lot of Texas culture, while Dallas is an overgrown suburb.
But, admittedly, I think Dallas is a good place to live, especially in town.

If you are single, Uptown is where you want to be. If you are a poser you'll fit right in with all the other 40k/year millionaires

Dallas blow Birmingham away! I have never lived in B'ham but work there quite a bit. I have lived 50 miles south of Dallas and did alot of business there. If you have a chance to make more money and live in Dallas you should jump on the opportunity. You can always retire back to B'ham one day.

I'd recommend white rock lake/lakewood. A little more laid back than the rest of big D proper and still has the feel of old Dallas.
If you're into shiny new apts., trendy restaurants and fresh-from-college crowd... then uptown / west village.
All of the suburbs are pretty much the same. Southlake, Plano, Frisco, etc. all have urban eclectic developments trying to emulate uptown for young white corporate nomads.
ETA: a *lot* depends on your job location. Dallas traffic and construction is out of hand these days. Don't live in Frisco and work in Las Colinas for instance. You're asking for a beating.

The airport in dallas proper is love field and you don't want to live there. The best suburb to bring a family is frisco. Frisco has good schools and plenty of parks, lake Lewisville, restaurants, etc. But it really depends on where your job will be because traffic can be a bitch.
May have misread your post about family. ..young singles are all over dallas area
Southlake eats Frisco alive. Grapevine too.

Uptown has some smugness, but still a great place to live and fun.
Greenville ave, Henderson, m streets, lower Greenville has a more "garden district" vibe. Great music venue in the Granada Theater, and more local neighborhood bars.

I'd honestly really consider staying in Birmingham. I'm not sure what you do, but if you could really move up the ladder in your career, I'd stay there.
The cost of living has to be cheaper. Birmingham is on the up with their food and drinking scene. Birmingham is a hell of a lot more scenic than Dallas. You get four seasons. The schools are just as good in Birmingham. You're close to your friends, family, and Univ. of Alabama.
I really think Dallas sucks. It's just an ugly, hot, arid, concrete town with nothing but strip malls and apartment complexes.

I lived in Uptown off McKinney Ave and it was incredible being able to Park my car Friday afternoon and not get in it until I left for work Monday morning since there are so many bars/restaurants in walking distance. Also Uber is plentiful there so DUIs in Uptown are non-existent.
Plenty of good looking girls, and the ratio is favorable unlike Houston
this
I've been here 3 years. Starting a SEC Game-Watching group in uptown for the Fall

The Dallas suburbs are so awful that I would rather rub one out with sandpaper than live there.
Uptown Dallas or lower Greenville.
Oak Lawn is the gayborhood, so you might like it just fine

Moving to Dallas tomorrow actually. Got a place in Knox-Henderson but like other posters have been saying anywhere uptown is prime.

This is a great area too. Old monk is a great bar with a great brunch deal.
