I'm surprised I don't know you.

I've caught a lot of fish around the cypress trees in about 6 ft of water behind the state park this time of year . They are scattered but there are usually fish on all of them .

Do you have any yoyo's?
Can't go wrong with those on darbonne.

Thanks. That's reassuring.

I don't necessarily like fishing with traps.

I've never really considered yoyo's traps, but rather automatic fishing devices and a lot of fun.

I do like running trotlines for catfish. But I don't consider them a sport/game fish.

We have had a camp across the lake from the State Park for 35 years and I have fished the area all of them. Here's what you are looking at.
Bass early / late around grass use Sinko (best)pumpkinseed or black/blue, spinner bait, rattle trap etc. In the heat of summer we do most of our bass fishing at night. Go to the right, while facing the lake, until you reach the camps and throw a black worm around lights and a big black spinner bait on the dark banks. Keep going around the points because the camps do.
Crappie - Go straight out to the channel and fish shinners or jigs in 14 ft of water, move till you find them. Can use 3 or 4 poles at once. If your cork floats flat pull it up, crappie feed up.
Bream - The lake is full of them
Catfish - put out a trotline near channel and bail it with small live bream, no telling what you will catch. This is always fun

Here's the latest fishing report from 8-13-2014
Pretty much what I said above:
Bream fishing has been quite good with best catches made on cold worms, red wigglers or crickets. Catfish are mixed in with the bream. Crappie are in the sloughs and are fair on shiners fished 10-15 feet deep in 15-20 foot water. Some bass are schooling and hitting Rat-L-Traps and topwater lures. When they're down, 8 inch June Bug finesse worm are picking up a few.

I've been a lurker for years, new job where I'm bored and most sites are blocked. But yes is the answer, that's my stomping grounds. Grew up in Ruston but am in DFW for work now. Get back as much as possible.

figures..
I grew up on the loutre, or, as us nip n' tuckers call it, the looter.
I remember Darbonne being built.

Thanks Torch! I just so happen to have all the tackle I need. If no success during the day, I'll try some night fishing.

The only lipless cranks I have are the Strike King red eye shad in black/chrome and gold sexy. Should I get a different color?

The map you posted shows a long line of camps at the bottom right where the green crosses, you can catch fish there but it will be a haul in a kayak.
It can get windy in that big open area

I've done trips over 5 miles. Shouldn't be too much of a problem. Thanks for all the tips!

If you are talking to me, early 40's.
Are you a Nip n' Tucker? Used to rabbit hunt up there with a bunch of them Chapman folks when I was a lad in grade school.
