that looks like a calculator watch, not a "smart watch"

You realize it was created in the 70s?

my first calculator had the exact same LED screen.

It actually does a bunch of really cool things that a standard calculator watch can’t — HP positioned it as a scaled-down calculator, and this was back when calculators were basically miniature computers (because people didn’t have easy, constant access to computers).
By 1977 standards, this is definitely a smartwatch.

my friend had this watch in 1980. it actually played a 'game'
numbers would march from right to left and you would have to use the 'up and down' buttons to switch between 0-9 and hit 'enter' once for each number you wanted to eliminate.
you lost if they got all the way across the screen and it sped up rapidly.
i remember we had it going for like 45 minutes in school one day (no pause back then) and were trying to do math work and kept passing it back quickly under the desks if we had cleared all numbers since you had 3-4 seconds to get back on it.

Yes? That isn't close to what this watch accomplished

i had one. they are particularly fun when stuck in airport lounges during layovers when different sporting events are running on the tvs
step 1: casually walk past tv to get model & brand
step 2: return to chair. covertly pull creased code list from wallet of remote codes to get correct one
step 3: program code into watch and the fun begins

I was that kid. Except I was in middle school. Around that era was also the time when laser pointers were becoming popular and the bane of teachers' existence. Also, plain digital watches with alarms... they were the original annoy-a-tron. Kids would set their alarm and hide the watch in a trash can or the teacher's desk and wait for the fun.
Teachers have it easy just having to deal with kids texting in class.

Now alot of phones has universal remote apps and built in IR blasters. I'll have to remember that next time I'm in the airport.
