how many OTers have partaken in this? I see it all over my Facebook and Twitter feed (kinda annoying). The Polar Plunge videos were much more badass, imo

So dumb. They should do fire challenge for ALS

so after they dump a bucket of ice on you then what?
does money magically appear in an account somewhere

i'm too much of a pussy to do that nonsense. I hate being cold

It disappeared from my feed a couple weeks ago
It was really popular then, died out, but team Gleason jumped on bored recently so now it's back
Much prefer that over the advocate newsfeed

Pouring ice water over your head does not cure ALS, and I'm getting really annoyed with people acting like they are great philanthropists because of it. It's like the people who think they are contributing to world peace by tweeting #BringBackOurGirls. You know, since radical terrorists monitor and comply with trending Twitter topics.
Awareness is great, but only if it yields action that actually makes a difference.

we dumped the ice bucket on my dad from behind on his 60th b-day. I don't recommend doing this.

It's general attention seeking with a cause attached, but apparently donations have shot through the roof so I'm fine with it. Whatever works.

It's annoying but I understand the reasoning behind it. Seems like it's more for self gratification and recognition than anything. I'd rather just donate the money to ALS if someone called me out.

Hasn't there been like a $1million donated because of it? I know nothing other than my Facebook feed.

Also, 1.35 million raised for ALS since July 29. So something must be happening

seems like this shite all started in the river parishes like 2 months ago as a general charity challenge and now the als has taken it nation wide

Can we start an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge for the OT and post or vids in this thread? I want to challenge PEEJ.

Who made that claim?

Marketing and advertisement tend to be tools used to generate money

It's for a good cause so I certainly don't "oppose" it, but it is annoying. The connection between charity and doing something to support charity seems to be widening, and it makes it confusing to grasp.
Can we not go back to the day where you get people to pledge money in return for you doing something that is hard/that sucks? Or is dumping some cold water on your head America's version of sacrifice now?

Explain to me how it works.
You donate money if you do the ice, and donate more if you don't?
