The worst politician in American History

William Jennings Bryan. Not only was this loon a rabid theocrat (He defended the state of Tennessee in the Scopes Monkey Trial, defending the Butler Act which forbade the teaching of Evolution), he was also a foaming at the mouth socialist. He advocated the abolition of the gold standard and the nationalization of the railraods.
The democratic party nominated this crackpot THREE TIMES, and, fortunately, he lost every time.

William Henry Harrison
Dude didn't accomplish shite as President. Completely ineffective.

Woodrow Wilson and Lyndon Johnson have the two most damaging presidents to the country in my opinion.

Politician implies they actually held a political office, you're simply referring to a candidate...

He also died a month in.
I'm reading through David McCullough's biography of John Adams and it's amazing how easily people could die of disease. Philadelphia seems to have been thinned out once a year due to yellow fever.
By the way, James Buchanan is probably the worst President, and his predecessor Franklin Pierce isn't far behind. Both were totally ineffective in keeping the Union together.

Jennings Bryan was a socialist loon who happened to be an outstanding orator, and made it way farther in politics than he ever should have gone on the strength of his speeches alone.
Remind you of anyone...??

That doesn't make you the worst. It just makes you an irrelevant footnote because you did nothing at all.
You become the worst politician when you take an action that's devastating to the American people.

Exactly. It reminds me of a joke about the Dwight Eisenhower doll. You wind it up and it does nothing for four years. Not always a bad thing to golf a lot when you do little harm.

James Buchanan. Country came apart as he watched and did nothing. Too bad Jackson or someone like him wasn't POTUS in Dec, 1860 and Jan, 1861. It would have been "over" before it started.

I agree on Buchanan but what are you talking about?
The Civil War?

A disgruntled supported wrote the Wizard of Oz about him. He was the Lion that roared but had no courage. The yellow brick road represented the gold standard BTW, The Tin man- The factory workers; Scarecrow-The farmers and The Wizard- A president that had to idea what he was doing.

I can get on board with this

William Jennings Bryan was a member of congress and Secretary of State. That said, he's not even close to being the worst politician in U.S. history.
I'm not sure how anyone who graduated high school in this country could do so without knowing of William Jennings Bryan.
