I don't think that goes over so well these days, but I've seen a few guys get shuffled to a later launch so they could have a few more hours to sober up.
ETA: I've got a friend that flies A-4's for a civilian aggressor outfit, and from what he tells me it's kind of a throwback to the old days.

Those guys were animals. They'd literally stay up all night partying then go beat the shite out of the students in dogfights while hungover on no sleep. Then go to the O - club to debrief.

Ever heard of the book by Robert L Shaw, "Fighter Combat". It's not light reading, but it gives you ideas on how a 2v1 fight should occur. From setup thru engagement to break-off.

Top Gun used to be in Miramar.
Now its called SFWP and SFTI in Fallon Nv. Four classes a year on average. Each class roughly 10 weeks. Two weeks of dogfighting with a week of evasive maneuvering and procedures vs F16, F-22 and another tiny arse Air Force bird im not familiar with. But when the Instructors take the little shite out vs the 18's, out guys come back with the biggest defeated look I've ever seen.
You've never seen a pilot get out of the 18 cockier than when him and his wingman actually defeat a 22. Sumbitches hard on is blue steel status.
