Does the Paul George injury change how TeamUSA is chosen?

May never see a collection of NBA all stars play USA basketball after this injury. Owners will be rewriting contracts. Pacer nation are going ballistic. This injury was a gamechanger for USA basketball. Teams have too much to lose with star players playing exhibition basketball...even if its for the red, white and blue. Agree or disagree?

Future of USA basketball, bunch of 5th year seniors

Disagree
But I think USA basketball cuts way back on the schedule and basically becomes an all star team

I doubt any of that happens.
As sickening as that injury was to watch, the same kind of injury could happen in an exhibition game in China or Drew League. Paul George was making a simple basketball play.
The same issue happens in soccer all the time, when players go on national team duty. Every club in the world hates to release its players to national team. Ultimately the decision to release a player to his national team is out of the clubs' control, unless the player has a nagging injury.
Every club in both basketball and soccer has an insurance policy from FIFA and FIBA in case of an injury while on national team duty.
This isn't unprecedented in basketball either. Manu Ginobili seriously injured himself while playing for Argentina at the 2008 Olympics.

The padding of the basket looked a lot closer to the court than usual.
Basketball in general needs to get people/shite away from the court. I've been bitching about that for years.

yea its definitely a couple feet in, but still. they need to move all that shite, the cameramen and all back. its not a drastic move, just move it all back a couple feet.
should also move the press tables back a little

This. They are athlete's. The risk is there every time they step on the court and that doesn't stop any of them in playing in Pro-am's all over the country in the offseason.

Pau broke his foot one year playing for Spain and missed a large chunk of a Grizzlies season one year.
shite happens. It's sports.

Cameramen underneath the basket piss me off every time.

Fully disagree.
Players can get injured in summer games where they are playing for free, no matter what.
Anyone else remember when Durant scored 66 points OT whatever at Rucker? That's about a hundred times less safe than a Team USA scrimmage.

Disagree.
These guys have played enough to know that could've happened in a regular practice just as easy as with Team USA. If they're not practicing/playing with Team USA they're still playing basketball in some shape or form.
You'll have some temporary overreaction by fans and some media. Maybe a push to move/change the backstops. But that's about it.

Over-reaction. People get serious injuries from all kinds of everyday activities. Been several pitchers who have cut tendons in their hands with kitchen knives. Sometimes shite happens. These guys know that

I don't know how NBA players step on a court next year if the rim supports and cameramen aren't moved back.
I said it in the game thread, but Anthony Davis literally falls into the cameramen 4-5 times a game and every time i'm holding my breath. I've got a cell phone that can take pictures from the stands. No reason for pro cameramen to be 5 feet from the court.

Back to the OP
I think players look at TEAM USA as part of their branding so I doubt we go back to the bad old days. Part of this emphasis on TEAM USA is from Kobe and Lebron. Another part is the players respect for Coach K.
So whomever takes over for Coach K may have to deal with the fallout of this injury. That probably means a dramatic scaling back on practice time and exhibitions.

Real talk. Can't elaborate on it better than that.

Valid points, but it has nothing to do with the overreaction in the original post about players being afraid to play for Team USA in international competition again.

The base of the goal is further back in the NBA than it was here, no need to change it. This was a freak injury and an unfortunate one but the NBA doesn't need to fix their goals. Cameramen being as close as they are is ridiculous though but I doubt they do anything about it.
