What you have to realize is we don't live very much in a local economy. We, even in BR, live in a global economy. Times changed and we aren't going back to the milkman, the attendant checking your oil and air pressure or smoking in airplanes. Looking for someone to blame? Blame Hitler. He created the Autobahn which Eisenhower drove on and in turn created the interstate highway system which in turn created suburbia which created enclosed malls, self service gas stations, chain restaurants and beanie babies.
