I'm afraid that John Williams will die before he completes the score for all three films. The man is 82 and there's a good possibility he won't live long enough to score all three films. And if there's one thing that has been consistent throughout the Star Wars Saga, it's his music.

My fingers are crossed that he'll be able to score the entire saga because there really isn't another film composer on this earth who is like him.

I listen to lots of scores. I haven't paid near enough time into JW's as other but a few that come to mind that I know would do an amazing job is Hans Zimmer's and Nick Phoenix and Thomas Bergensen (Two Steps From Hell).

John Williams is one of the GOAT. I think Zimmer is the best in the biz, though. The Inception score was phenomenal. I think it's important to the fans that Williams is able to do the score. I hope he's still hanging tough.

Hans Zimmer is very hit and miss. He, like James Horner, recycles a lot of motifs from previous scores he has worked on. There are times when he blows me away and other times where he bores me to death.

Han Zimmer is the far superior composer. Just look at how diverse his portfolio is. Driving Miss Daisy, The Lion King, The Dark Knight, POTC, and The Thin Red Line. Those 5 movies have only one thing in common. Hans Zimmer.

The music is going to be the best thing about the next three movies, in my opinion. When has John Williams ever screwed up? He's the best in the business. My big worry is that his grand finale will be tainted by the movies themselves.

I have already accepted that these next installments are going to be unmitigated disasters. Star wars seemed to conclude on a brilliant note through the first six episodes. I just don't see what is left. There is simply no way there will be a more epic threat than the Sith.

If a boba-fett type villain represents the main enemy, then the entire thing is a flop.

I was hoping the main fight would revolve around an evil dark side wookie tribe. (with lightsabers (red), I may add). That would have made for an amazing plot, and would have justified adding on to a story that already, in my view, had an epic, emotional, and brilliant closing.

It's really shocking to me that someone would think this movie is going to be bad based on, well nothing so far, only rumors. One of the more uninformed opinions I've heard.

abellsujr, it's more because of the fact that the entire story, through six episodes, was constructed, and ended, so beautifully (with the exception of the first two episodes). The giant weight of grand expectations will a death sentence. The movies may very ell be good based on their own, but when you are aware that they abolished the closure of the originally story, then you'll realize the damage.

I have very little doubt that the music will be great, and the plot, when ignoring the first six films, will be good, but the devil is in the expectations.

Let me add that I'll eat my share of crow if I'm wrong, which is a possibility.

Personally I think this new trilogy has a lot of potential based on everyone involved so far, hopefully my expectations come true.

But yeah hopefully JW is able to score the entire set.

Just out of curiosity, did we ever learn what happened to the galaxy once the Empire fell? Did it go back to being a Republic?

According to the Star Wars wiki (Spoilers):

quote:

The Thrawn Trilogy and The Truce at Bakura were the first novels to reveal that the Battle of Endor was by no means the end of the story. The destruction of the second Death Star, the loss of Darth Vader and the Emperor, and the defeat of the Imperial fleet represented a major turning point in the war, however. But immediately following the Rebel's victory, Luke Skywalker and his friends went off to defend the people of Bakura from the deadly incursions of the Ssi-ruuk invaders threatening to turn their citizens into a slave army. They were but the first, as the post-Return of the Jedi Marvel Star Wars series soon revealed that following a brief respite, the Nagai were to invade, followed on their heels by the Tof invasion. Their final defeat marked the start of the New Republic and the end of outside alien invasions until 25 ABY when the Yuuzhan Vong struck. In the interim, however, there was plenty of Imperial mopping up to do and lots of adventures.

Within five years, well over half of what was Imperial space was under the control of the New Republic. The war continued for another 15 years. The New Republic would be challenged by Imperial commanders, such as Ysanne Isard, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Admiral Daala, and Admiral Pellaeon. The New Republic would even be challenged by the Reborn Emperor—the spirit of Palpatine in a new clone body. But the New Republic would weather all these storms.

Fifteen years after the Battle of Endor Admiral Pellaeon and the other Imperial leaders realized that further military conflict with the New Republic would be fruitless. The remnants of the Imperial forces signed a peace treaty with the New Republic. The decades-long Galactic Civil War was finally over.

Also, after Jabba's death, Luke was held in high respect for deleting all the debts the Hutt posted on his unfortunate undertakers. Zorba the Hutt, Jabba's father, was furious when he heard of his son's demise. He took over Cloud City, and in the long run, posted bounties on whomever was responsible for Jabba's death, primarily Luke Skywalker and his sister, Leia Organa.

Its in the books, but I am fairly certain it came out that this would be placed in time where they are still trying to recreate the Republic.

I am hopeful because of Kevin Smith's comments. Seems like Abrams is really trying hard to stay away from CGI as much as possible and actually have hand made costumes and sets.

I did and I'm being serious. Pretty much every major SciFi movie tries to imitate the loud horn sound now. Its also one of my top films
