Is this article claiming that food stamps are necessary? I tend to have a positive outlook on humanity, and believe in all my heart that this lady would have been helped whether or not the government was there.

Besides, food stamp users are not, and never have been, predominantly people who were once middle class.

Did you read it? She's not arguing that they are necessary. She's just talking about how she thought she'd never be in a position to have cause to use them. She's talking about how it felt to stand in line at a grocery store and be judged for using them. Its not about once being middle class, I thinks its more about finding out that not everyone who uses these programs are dead beats looking for a handout. I'm not pro entitlement. I pay a shite ton of taxes and hate that any of it goes to some a-whole who thinks the world owes him something. But thats the guy you always hear about and the title of the article makes you think its just another one of those stories.
