Motherwell should be investigated for match fixing by UEFA

Motherwell, who consistently end up second in Scotland, have now gone 10 matches without a win in European competition.
Before somebody comes in and says "Scotland sucks," Scottish clubs outside of Motherwell and Hibs (embarrassed last year before getting relegated), normally do at least decently in the early playoff rounds (this year St. Johnstone and Aberdeen have advanced). Before McCall became manager, even Motherwell performed well in Europe.
This season deserves special attention. They played Icelandic club Stjarnan (sp?), a part-time club whose matches are played in a public park. Over the two legs, Motherwell Midfielder Lasley conceded three penalties.
Why are they match fixing? The pre-group rounds of UEFA competitions cost more money to clubs than they bring in. Motherwell has decided that going out early is better than going out later. They also know that UEFA won't look into them. It's shameful. UEFA, do your job.

So it's match fixing to just tank early and save their squad for Scottish Cups and League play? Maybe they don't have to depth (or money required to create the depth) to effectively play a European schedule as well as their normal schedule.

Yes. Tanking destroys the integrity of the competition. IMO, it should also be punished in other sports.

Would you feel better if teams were just able to forfeit prior to the game or give their spot to the next place team?

If it also entailed a points deduction in their domestic league and a forfeiture of funds.

The "I'm not saying, I'm just saying" in me would question match fixing as it went to ET. If you are just wanting out, you dont score 2 away from home

Serviceable. Vigurs and Ainsworth are above average, but the squad mainly relies on older players (Lasley, McManus, etc.). McFadden's actually back there, if you can believe it. Aberdeen and Dundee United should jump them in the very near future (Aberdeen should have finished second last season).

In any case, Rangers will be back after this season, and they'll be right up there with you after a couple more. So you won't have to bitch about Motherwell anymore.

why?
a. teams should be able to punt/forfeit if they so desire. any punishment should come from within the team itself
b. why would that behavior spill into a different set of competition under a different authority? if UEFA wants to ban them from that particular competition for a set period of time, then fine, that's both logical and follows the authority of governance

Um...it's pretty common to field a lesser squad in cup competitions. Granted, most teams don't do so for European competitions, but prioritizing competitions is not the same as match fixing. It's impossible to send out your best XI every week. If any governing body took steps to require a team to do so in their competitions that would be ridiculous.

Udinese has done this for years whenever it qualifies for a European competition.
It continuously buys low for emerging South American and African talent, and then sells high to super clubs. Then Udinese, still very much a provincial team, effectively fields youth teams + Di Natale in early round Europa League fixtures. The Udinese management realized that it could make more from transfers, than it could from advancing in the Europa League.
It's become pretty apparent when the Italian UEFA coefficient dropped so much over the past few years, despite AC Milan, Inter, Juve and even Fiorentina doing quite well in the competition.

They're dead.
And the tribute act won't win the Championship. And even if they make it up through the playoff, they won't compete with Celtic for about a decade. And in that time, Aberdeen and Dundee United will solidify their places.

Motherwell's been competing in Europe since well before Rangers died. Their shittiness in Europe has made it so that Celtic would have to make the round of 16 for 10 straight seasons for the Scottish coefficient to rise.

Wrong. European competition directly affects the domestic league's coefficient.

I'm not saying UEFA should fine them and deduct points for forfeiture, I'm saying the SPFL (or insert domestic league here) should, because their forfeiture negatively impacts the domestic league.

now udinese is supplying watford with endless italian loan deals

Yeah, Udinese sells all of its elite talent and then loans out the rest of them. Di Natale must really love him some northeastern Italy to stay there since 2004.

So basically what you're saying is I should bet heavily against Motherwell
