Taking the Project Management (PMP) Certification. How was the Test?

I've bought all the books and wanted to get this certification by the end of the year. I've got the PMBOK and this PMP Exam Prep Guide by Rita.
At some point, I've got to take this prep class, which I'll get work to pay for.
I have a boss that keeps trying to discourage me from taking it, as it's pretty much the only thing that makes her qualifications unique. But, I'm a spiteful bastard and must be the best I can be.
So what's my best strategy for tackling this monster? I've heard mix reviews and that some of this is common sense if you have any Project Management application. Then I heard it's hard as hell.
Thanks.

I hear studying in groups is the best way to go. Have heard Rita is the best guide. The local PMI chapter offers a week long crash course/guaranteed to pass type deal periodically.
Have not taken it myself but I've looked in to it a bunch. It isn't exactly a big boost to my resume.

I've heard it's a bitch. Group study has best results from what I was told.

I am a member. I heard the hardest part was Procurement but that's my field, so I figured it would be a lay up.

I see this a lot on groupon and have thought about doing it.

In addition to passing the test, what are the other requirements for the PMP certification?

This is my problem with that, I need it to verify it counts as 35 contact hours. I don't think that one does.

4500 documented hours of PM, bachelors degree and 35 contact hours or whatever (pretty much a shill for you to take their prep course and funnel money into the system).

just what we need.....another PMP holder without a clue about managing a project

besides prep courses, what counts as contact hours?

I'm serious..PMP holders are a dime a dozen...and half of them don't have a clue...and from the threads you start on here about work, I'm sure that's the grouping you fall into

It seems it has to be classroom instruction. I know they offer an online course that counts.

You seem insecure......

Get out of here trying to troll me.

I'm not..I'm just telling you, from my experience, they give a PMP to anyone who can pass a test and pay the fee
I have a CM degree and an MBA and have been working in project controls for over 10 years...most PMPs don't know their head from their arse

Online can count. PMI verified Skillsoft courses are acceptable.

For the record, the PMP test is hard as shite. I've heard it compared to the bar exam.

Don't forget to put PMP after your name on LinkedIn
