The wife and I are on different carriers and are considering consolidating. I've put my foot down that Verizon can kiss my arse, not because of the phone plans but because they are pushing so hard against Net Neutrality
LINK
While many ISP's are looking for the cash cow that would come their way should Net Neutrality go the way of the 8-track, Verizon is not only at the very bottom but is going to unheard-of levels of fricktardery in pursuit of that dream.
Verizon? FTG (frick Those Guys)!

I believe ATT has been doing this. Not a lot of people go over 5GB of data. Instead of using ALL data, turn on WIFI.
ATT started this. Got a text saying I've gone over 2GB and they were going to keep throttling my speed until next month. It's BS.

is there a rule in the contracts saying that at&t and verizon must grandfather in unlimited data for existing users?
it seems to me that the moment your 2 year agreement is up, that they could do away with unlimited data on your account, or even cancel your account for that matter
they are doing the grandfathering process to keep customers, but if those customers are using enough data to cause disruptions, then they may not be worth keeping
I'm just looking at from their perspective

I think you're lucky in the sense that the throttling hasn't made video unwatchable.

They have for Netflix (and the back and forth on that has been )

Now I'm using between 12-15 gb a month, mostly from streaming video while I'm at the gym. About 90% of that data is my twitch.tv app.
Yeah, see I can understand throttling your data usage if you're doing this at 5pm on a Friday when everybody and their grandma is trying to make a call and the network is clogged.
There's no reason for you to be able to get your favorite TV show at the gym and I can't make a call.

you dont actually believe that happens, do you?
even if it did, it's the onus of Verizon to provide reliable service to their customers. It's not the customers' fault for using the services they pay for.

I'm guessing that's what they are doing by restricting data hogs.

They did honor your contract didn't they? I'm sure they aren't holding a gun to your head to make you sign another one that has limited data.
Sounds like you are searching for a unicorn. (E.G. An unlimited, reliable data plan for cheap.)

it's only a "unicorn" because of the shitty telcos here in the US
and people like you who believe their crap are the ones enabling them
and yes, they've honored my contract thus far. The subject of the thread is that they stated that they will cease honoring it.

You aren't under any contract anymore it seems like though

T-Mobile also throttles your data once you reach a certain GB on their unlimited
So you like to throw shite against the wall and hope it sticks?

The only definitive limit on it I see is 5GB of tethering. Seems like even T-Mobile's lower tiered plans with data caps don't even charge you for overages. They just drop you to painfully slow 2G speeds after you reach the cap.
Yep. I have the unlimited and there is no throttling. Dude was lying. I do have a limit on HotSpot, but I have never gone over 3GB. And if I need to go over, you can call TMob and add more for that month and then go back to normal. They really are easy.
quote:
Mainly, how do they handle phone upgrades, and of course, what's reception like in BR?
Not sure about BR, but here in Oahu I get 25-30mbps down and about 15mbps up for data. Dropped call every once in a while when I am going through mountains or a tunnel.
As far as "upgrades" with TMob, you are buying the phone outright. Your plan is considerably cheaper than other carriers, so the 20 months at $20-$25 to buy the phone is still cheaper and then after 20 months, your plan drops by that $20-$25.
quote:
Holy shite, their Jump plan is even worse than ATT Next.
Forget those shitty gimmicks. Just buy the phone outright. If you don't have to have the LG G3 or whatever is newest, you can buy any GSM phone you want and bring it in. I get the newest so I pay $600 for a phone and still pay less than AT&T or Verizon when it's all said and done.
I have 5 people, including me, on my plan and total is about $195. The first 2 lines are $40, then it is only $10 per line for the next 3. It's only $20 per line to have actual unlimited data and calls/text plus the 3GB HotSpot at LTE speed. You can pay $30 or $40 (can't remember) and get unlimited HotSpot at LTE as well. The other lines get unlimited calls and texts and 500mb of data included.
Once last thing; I went to Europe last month and TMob was awesome. Had free unlimited data and text to the USA. Worked everywhere. Calls to/from were only $.20/min. My clients could call me and had no idea I was in Prague, Latvia or Sweden (subtle brag)

a month to month contract is still a contract
I pay for a service and they have an obligation to deliver that service

especially when I can switch to a service that actually gives me what I pay for
AT&T & Verizon have pretty much universal coverage. Not Sprint.
