Ben Simmons NOT Selected for the Aussie National Team

Wow, kind of a slap in the face to him. Although he is very young, he'd be a starter on that team.
Dante Exum, who is a year older, got chosen.

Keeps him from having to bang in the post against grown men. Even though Exum's young he doesn't have to worry about that.

That's incredibly odd. No way he wouldn't get major minutes

Doesn't make sense to me

No Ben Simmons or Patty Mills? That's shocking.

Ben Simmons was not going to play over NBA and Euroleague players, guys. Come on.

Dante Exum got chosen, might I add he just got chosen in the draft and is only a year older than Simmons.
Also, there are several scrubs on the Aussie team who dont even play euro-ball or NBA.
Handful of Aussie leauge guys and even a really crappy SF who plays in the Israeli basketball league ( )

David Anderson has been in the NBA and the Euroleauge for a decade. Aron Baynes was the 12th man on the Spurs. Joe Ingles (the "really crappy SF who plays in Israel") is one of the biggest players in Europe and has been close to jumping to the NBA, including the Pelicans, for the last 2 years. Cameron Bairstow averaged 22 points a game in the NCAA last year and was drafted in the 2nd round. Brad Newley has been playing for top European teams for five or six years now. Nathan Jawai is 300 pounds.
Those are the guys who are his competition. Anyone other than an LSU homer or a relative of Ben Simmons would take each of those guys with less than a second of thought over Ben Simmons in an international tournament right now.
I also believe Ben Simmons will be the top player in his high school class (admittedly, the worst class since 2005), and be the best freshman for LSU since at least Tyrus Thomas.

As an LSU fan I'm happy about this. Keep him from getting hurt and wearing him down. He is worthy of being included but I have no problem with it

Ingles was miserable in the euro league for Barcelona and he averaged 6 points and 3 boards a game last season against a bunch of nobodies in Israel as a 26 year old.
Simmons would run circles around that guy. GTFO of here with that crap.

LeBron James is a human being.
Jordan Jefferson played football at LSU for 4 years.
Joe Ingles has been linked with the Pelicans for 2 straight offseasons.
All of these are 100% accurate facts.

And has never played once in the NBA. There's dozens and dozens of players each NBA team keeps in contact with outside of their active roster, who cares?
What's relevant is this guy averaged 6 points and 3 boards a game in the fricking Israeli Super League last season as a 26 year old. He also stunk playing for Barcelona...yet you're trying to make him out into some kind of legend.
Simmons would own in that league.

No he wouldn't. He would sit behind 3 other guys and probably average 4 points per game because that's how any young player other than LeBron or Durant (who is basically the perfect speciman for Euro ball) would do.
None of the guys get shiny stats when they play for the biggest teams in Europe because they rotate constantly and go for ball movement/open shots. You're more likely to see 8 guys getting 10 points each than a superhuman performance. And what are the biggest teams? Barca, CSKA Moscow, and Maccabi Tel Aviv. By definition, any guy who gets into the rotation of those teams is a) one of the Europe's best b) on the radar of NBA teams but unlikely to go unless they get a guaranteed contract c) getting offers to go to upstart European teams as featured players.
Fwiw, here are Ricky Rubio's stats in the Euroleauge and with Barcelona LINK
Brandon Jennings put up even worse numbers on a worse team.

Ingles averaged something like 15/5/5 in the Olympics a few years ago. Stats in Europe are very deceiving.

Rubio was very young and he's not exactly an NBA super star either now.
Ingles was essentially a non-factor in Maccabi's run to the euro championship. He threw in 2 points in their final 2 games, meanwhile Tyrese Rice and Alex Tyus were the stars for that team. Two former college players who couldn't cut it in the NBA. I will admit the game is much different over there, but Ingles is absolutely nothing special. Simmons EASILY has much more talent than him.
Players with Ben Simmons' talent dont even bother with those leagues unless they want to spend making a year of money before the NBA.

Simmons is more talented but Ingles is used to playing against a higher level of competition.

bullshite. Him not making the team is an absurd decision. Just because other guys have experience at a higher level doesn't instantly mean they are better than the number 1 overall prospect in the world. Thats just stupid and I'm tired of people saying that shite.

Well, Simmons made the choice to come over here and play high school ball so it wouldn't be an issue for him.
But if he didn't come here for high school, he would have either gone the Exum route, or he would have dominated the weak Australian league. If he was born Ben Simonovic instead, he would have been a back-up for a top Euro squad and then gotten picked in the lottery in the NBA.
Most of the Euro guys coming over have dismal stats, aside from Pau (I think) and oddly enough, Sasha Vujacic. That's why I'm not a big fan of high schoolers going over to Europe. Most will absolutely hate every second of it.
The Aussies have tons of depth at the 3 and 4 positions. Not as much at point, especially without Mills. I assume Mills chose to sit it out, like Kawhi. Basically I think it's better for Simmons to be here than it is for him to be a scrub on the Aussie team behind Baynes, Anderson, Ingles, etc.

A guy who averaged 20 and 7 while shooting at an unbelievably efficient percentage at a team that would have easily beaten LSU will be a benchwarmer for the Aussies next month.
There is nothing absurd about not selecting Simmons for a team in 2014. 2014 being the most important part of the sentence.
