i believe i saw on the news last night that they were going to try to get it on the dec ballot( i think i heard that right)

not surprised, but I think they may end up having enough to make the December ballot.

Poor showing on their part. I supported their efforts, but it looks like this is as good as dead in the water.
I have two friends who refused to sign after the recent annexations. I think that was the right choice.

Supposedly that is the strategy.
If they get 200 signatures a week, they may be close depending on the number of legitimate signatures and the actual number of signatures that they are trying to get.

How is it dead? They reported last week that they had 17k of their 18k signatures needed.

I fully expect them to get their signatures. Just depends on which Election Day ballot they get on that matters. If you need a big turnout, then you're screwed as the deadline has passed for a while. If you want a small turnout, you're in business becuase several of those pop up all the time. Lots of people don't like going to the polls if there isn't a big race. Not sure who that would help.
I've been thinking about that too, and I don't know if a big turnout would be in their favor or a smaller one.
You know how the school board and BREC always want special elections for tax renewals. Maybe we need to employ the same strategy????

Smaller favors St.G.
Those that can be swayed to oppose it won't be running out to vote.

Good.
The status quo crowd in the EBR School Board, BREC, and the Library Board all use the same tactic.

It certainly isn't dead.
The drumbeat of negative publicity has hurt, but it's not dead.
I expect the anti SG crowd will make a big deal out of the upcoming annexations that make no sense. They aren't close to the casino and all they will do is eventually cost the city money.
But all we will hear is more annexations as if these have the same effect as losing the Mall did.

You don't think it is significant the signatures have slowed to 200/week from 500/week in the last 6 weeks? Maybe going to slow more in the coming weeks?

At the end of the day the rate of acquisition doesn't matter, crossing the finish line is what matters.

Still trying to decide who is worse.
You with the St. George proposals
or
I.B. Freeman with the film tax credits.

Sure I think "the rate of return is significant" to a point. I would expect that initially signatures would be easier to get and the numbers would dwindle if the effort to obtain signatures remained the same.
I also would expect the efforts from the city would also have their effects, especially the annexation of the Mall.
But the main thing is they reach their goal in a reasonable amount of time. Now what is a "reasonable amount of time"? That is up for debate, but if the voting population become tired of the political crap and get turned off then its a unreasonable amount of time.
That's what the city wants(people to get POed by the BS) and that's what SG can't let happen.
SG needs to get the word out that its about education, and that this Together is Better is a cute slogan, but it has been shown that we aren't together and the system we have now is not very good.

Probably
But at least you care about your local issues.
I don't have the numbers on St. George. I do know that Baton Rouge people need to just give them their school district though.

If someone asked me right now, I'd trade the ISD for the city in a heartbeat.
I honestly believe that the ISD would kickstart housing in EBR, and the city would prosper as a result from the new residents who will inevitably shop in the city and visit downtown, etc.
Texas has proven that ISDs can work very well.
