Both are learned men, in their own respect. Levin is a lawyer...and a patriot. Savage pseudo-Renaissance man/entertainer...and a patriot too.

Levin has lines...Savage don't.

PS...Perry will do a lot better in the debates this time. Last time he was SHOCKED to be within reach of the 'big prize'. Does that to all of em'. This time...he'll stay focused on the ball.

The thing is, austism is over-diagnosed. There is a modicum of truth somewhere in that, it's not 99%, not even the majority. But that kind of hyperbole just ruins it for people on both sides of the debate.

ADHD is overdiagnosed, autism much less so. Its just that lay people think all autistic people are like Rainman and so they assume people on the mild end of the spectrum are just misdiagnosed brats. If anything medicine has caught up and all the cases missed in the past are being caught now, thus the spike in diasnoses.

My sister is autistic, but 90% of people would say she isnt.

Savage is a left coast fruit loop,, he's right about a lot of things and knows a little bit, but to say he has a finger on the pulse of the grass roots tea party.. I don't know about that.

I don't dislike the guy, much like Anthony Cumia he has the ability to spit out more raw truth than the public at large is willing to hear. He's probably wrong on the percentages but he's right about a lot of "autistic" kids just being the low IQ product of parents who don't want to accept that their genes produced that child.

Did you listen to the debate between Levin and Tom Woods over nullification?

He's brilliant. His voice grates on my nerves a little though.

Now I hadn't read what Savage said about autistic kids...but if I had read the above and were asked to speculate on what talk show host said it...it would be Savage hands down. Classic Savage. Humor with guilt.

well i hope you realize that you're saying "they're vastly expanding the definition of autism, so there are vastly more cases"

He's really not. Autism and pure developmental delay present wildly differently. Autism has very specific characteristics, even among the highest functioning people on the spectrum.

Im sure it happens occasionally, but Ive never seen someone with an incorrect diagnoses of autism and Ive seen thousands.

Now ADHD is a different matter, probably less than half of the kids with ADHD as the primary diagnosis actually have it. That is the "bratty kid" disease as it is much more general and ambiguous diagnostically.

The basic characteristics of the diagnosis havent changed, medicine has just largely overcome the stereotypes and is identifying more subtle cases. My sister was valedictorian, is married and wildly successful but she has nearly every diagnostic criteria for autism. Youd never know it just by casually meeting her, though.

The definition itself hasnt changed much, though. Mild cases in the past were just considered odd or eccentric.

One reason for the dramatic increase in children diagnosed with autism in Utah is the expanded definition of the disorder, according to a new study.

University of Utah researchers applied today's criteria for autism-spectrum disorders to children who were considered challenged in the 1980s and who participated in an autism study at that time. The new study found a majority of those kids would now be classified as autistic

quote:

"The modern criteria have expanded the number of folks who are included in this diagnosis," said one of the study's authors, Deborah Bilder, an assistant professor of psychiatry who works in the U.'s autism diagnostic clinic.

It is known that the expanded definition has increased the identification of high-functioning individuals with autism. The new study shows it has also boosted identification of those who have both autism and an intellectual disability.

quote:

"It does support the idea that a part of this increase in prevalence is related to the broadening criteria," said Bilder.

Rand Paul

Truthfully, can Rand separate himself from his dad.

Ron defends russia

quote:

Former Congressman Ron Paul defended the Russian government on Sunday and slammed Western leaders for spreading "propaganda" after a Malaysian Airlines plane was allegedly shot down by Kremlin-backed separatists in Ukraine.

"Western politicians and media joined together to gain the maximum propaganda value from the disaster. It had to be Russia; it had to be Putin, they said," the former presidential candidate wrote. "While western media outlets rush to repeat government propaganda on the event, there are a few things they will not report."

Russia "has killed no one in Ukraine, and the separatists have struck largely military, not civilian, targets."

I can look up the characteristics of autism, but the information will be very generic, if you don't mind answering, I am genuinely interested in what characteristics a person like your sister has that meet the criteria for autism.

Your study is largely mistaken and, apparently, poorly conducted.

so Ron knows the western media well... remember all the WMD hyperbola before Bush went to war, remember all the ethnic cleansing/genocide rhetoric in the press before Clinton went to war?

Remember the entire Obomba presidency?

You must have at least six of the following symptoms, including at least two from the first category, all appearing prior to age 3:

1: Problems with social interaction (poor nonverbal skills, lack of meaningful relationship formation, lack of peer interaction, inability to share enjoyment with others)

2: Problems with communication (delayed speech, inability to carry conversations, repetitive or stereotyped use of language, lack of imaginative and imitative play)

3: Repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior (narrow, focused interests, inflexible adherence to rituals, repetitive motor movements, preoccupation with insignificant subjects or objects)

My sister overcame some of these through years of therapy, but as a child she had most of those. She still has relatively poor recognition of things like sarcasm, some struggles with nonverbal skills, can be somewhat awkward around new people if forced to converse for extended periods and has some repetitive motor movements that you wouldnt notice unless you spent lots of time with her. She also has some hyperfocused obscure interests.
