I thought it was a good movie on its own, but the way it made me think about my own "boyhood" and all the first time experiences I'll never get to relive made me appreciate it a hell of a lot more. The movie didn't force a plot with deus ex machina. Linklater just let a nice little story unfold, and I think the humanity of it was beautiful. It was the movie tree of life should have been.

Parents saw it yesterday and said they both liked it but didn't get all the hype that some are calling it a top 10 of all time

Finally got to see this movie, and it really is remarkable. I really have so much respect for everyone involved in bringing such a unique project to the screen.

The two main kids were excellent, and Hawke deserves an Oscar nomination imo. He was great, and his comfort with improv from working with Linklater in the Before series really shows. He was so natural, and I felt like most of the best scenes were with him, as the other actors were most comfortable with him, and he brought the best out of them.

As someone just starting this miracle of life with our own son, both my wife and I were so moved by watching the whole thing play out in a couple of hours. It was both exhilarating and terrifying, yet ultimately a peaceful and comforting experience.

This poster summed it up perfectly imo:
