The Cubs are getting close to trading Bonifacio, tweets Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago. Levine tweets that Bonifacio is not in tonight’s lineup, which could obviously signal that a deal is nigh. Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle hears that the Giants have been scouting Bonifacio all week, but the asking price for the impending free agent is said to be high.
2:32pm: The Orioles are Giants are considering Cubs utility man Emilio Bonifacio as a trade option, tweets ESPN’s Buster Olney. Bruce Levine of 670 The Score adds the Royals, Mariners, and Reds as three more potential suitors (All Twitter links).

Love the Masterson deal. Double A prospect we couldn't get to triple A and added a solid #3-#4 guy behind Waino Lynn Wacha.
Now go dump Craig for a bag of chips so Oscar can play every day.

What's the word on the Ramsey kid that the Tribe got in return? Looking at it briefly, it looks as if this season was the first that he has been able to put it all together of sorts. What's the ceiling for this guy?
He has a pretty high ceiling. Certainly not projected like a Taveras, but he'll make a big league team and contribute. He moved from A to AA to AAA all in one year in 2013. He settled in at AA this year and has been killing it. The Cards just have a shite load of OF's and having added Buorjos and Grichuk pushed him back to AA.

what?

Ramsey is a solid prospect, but he lacks upside and isn’t close to cracking any top-100 lists
granted he is ranked 7th best Cardinal prospect he is already 24 and is repeating Double A

Ultimate, I'll have to respectfully disagree.
Waino > Masterson
Lynn > Masterson
Martinez > Masterson
Wacha > Masterson
Kelly > Masterson
Miller > Masterson
Ramsey is a Triple A prospect on nearly any other team, if not up in the bigs already. OF was obviously a position of strength/depth, but you just don't give the shite away for something that isn't going to help.

This I don't disagree with.

You're nuts, Craig has a .243/.313/.356 slash line since the 2013 AS break. He is awful. Rios is actually good.
Then that means Jon Daniels probably will make the deal.

yea but he was only drafted in 2012.

Ok, maybe we have to define high ceiling. All I meant by it is don't be surprised to see the kid on a roster in short order. Like I said, he's no Taveras but the kid went from Single A to Double A to Triple A all in 2013. He's repeating Double A this year because Mo apparently thought that OF was a position of need in the offseason and got Buorjos and Grichuk, pushing everyone else down a level again.

Oh god are you one of those ignorant Cardinal fans that think Craig is still worth a frick? Get over it, everyone likes him he's a good dude but he fricking sucks and we have a top prospect in all of baseball ready.

Sorry but Mo knows a lot more than you.
See the 2011 Jake Westbrook trade, who won Game 6 of the World Series.

I'm assuming you're responding to someone else. I'm all for trading Craig. Maybe for more than a bag of balls, but I have no problem with that.

quote:or because he didn't show anything.... kid had 3 at bats in Triple A so I don't think that counts and batted .265 in Double A last year with 108 strikeouts in 411 at bats

As long as Masterson is healthy, I'd rather trot him out there than Miller, Martinez, or Kelly. Seems like a good trade for the Cardinals.

But less than you I take it since he signed Craig to a contract?!?!?!?
Besides, I said he had to get some balls and make a real deal. I didn't say he didn't know what he was doing. I think he knew full well what he was doing. He was going low risk (not giving up much from a position of depth) but low reward (a guy who may not be in the starting 5 much less in a playoff rotation).

Exactly, the rotation desperately needed a veteran with experience behind Waino. The rest are kids.

The Astros are looking to trade first baseman/DH Chris Carter, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post (Twitter link).
The 27-year-old Carter has plenty of power, as evidenced by the 50 homers he’s mashed since Opening Day 2013 (21 this season). However, the righty slugger is hitting just .212 with a .291 OBP despite a .474 slugging percentage that is huge, considering his paltry batting average.

The Indians are indeed interested in Lackey, tweets Rosenthal. Two teams that aren’t in play, he adds, are the Angels and Brewers.
12:01pm: There’s now a “very good chance” that the Red Sox will trade John Lackey as well as Jon Lester, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports (via Twitter). Lackey has been known to be available for days, but there had also been speculation that Boston could work out some form of extension with the right-hander.
