Thanks for all the feedback. I just got back from buying her pen....and sorry for the wrong lingo on the breed. My wife just met her and sent a video of her. Waiting on pics.

Well with the dog being 5 years old you're going to get what you've got and you won't change her opinion on any thing. If she's a good dog that is a good thing. Just try to make her as comfortable as possible with her new surroundings. They can get their feelings hurt pretty easy. I know it sounds stupid but you'll see. If you're going to hunt her she'll likely train you.

Not kidding when I say that I was in Moyock NC, where I saw a Chesapeake and a Large Poodle mix.
It was the best hunting dog, I have ever seen. Not kidding. You can throw a brick of a four foot deep pier at the marsh......she'd go get it.

Two questions. Why did she have to go to school twice and how do you arrive at that 8K value?
Posted on 7/18/14 at 8:23 pm to Geauxtiga
I can only assume that she went to be trained and went back the next off season to be finished. 8k between dog and training cost. the vast majority of people including myself have never hunted over a finished dog. doesn't mean they aren't good if they aren't finished and being finished doesn't even mean they can hunt worth a shite but for all the pecker measures of the dog training world a finished dog will do more of whats asked than a started or hunting only kind of dog

Congrats on the Chessie. Do you know what breeder or the line she is from? Everything said about them being hard headed is definitely true but a lot of people don't realize that they can be very hard headed but still be very soft. They will completely shut down when a little bit of pressure is applied. Mine was bounced out by 2 well known local trainers, mainly because the typical field trial trainer's program just doesn't work with chesapeakes. I ended up sending her to a 3rd trainer in Florida that only trains brown dogs and within 10 weeks had a very workable dog back.
People say you can train a lab but you have to trick a chesapeake.
Mine has now picked up over 1000 birds and I wouldn't trade her for the world. The only issue I have is she is definitely the Alpha and has laid down the whooping on labs twice her size so I can't really let her roam around the camp when there are other dogs around.

Man I love the people that run their heads about their labs eating mine up. I don't even play into most of it because its not worth my time and money to have to fix one of their dogs. He's only gotten into with another hunting dog twice. Both were instigated by the other owner somewhat behind my back. Both pissed me off but I wasn't the one cleaning dog wounds if you know what im sayin.

Again thanks for all the responses. To answer a few of the question's. I'll have more pics Tuesday when I get her. The owner has all paper work, IE:bloodline, training papers etc. When I saw the first pic of her, I noticed the white spot on her chest. I thought she wasn't pure even though the owner said she was. I goggled it and AKC said most chessies have the spot. What a relief! The first time to school was obedience, second was for hunting. Her mom and dad were trial champ's. She was trained by Quincy Camobell. I spoke to him today and said he remembered training her. Again, I'll post more pics Tuesday.

And no, she is not fixed. I may breed her next year sometime. I'm thinking the pups would go quick around her.

before you breed a chessie..... get checked for DM heredity....
especially if from FT lines... plenty of the FT chessies came from tiger(distagon) and he was a carrier...
DM is like lou gherigs but can hit em young.. happened to us...and it was devastating...
