In a poll released Thursday by Harris Interactive, the Cleveland Cavaliers forward passed His Airness for the honor for the first time in his 11-year career. Jordan, who has not played basketball in more than a decade, still comes in at No. 2. Jordan had been topped the poll from 1993-2005 and was No. 1 again last year. Harris surveyed 2,241 adults online between June 11 and 16 to come up with the final tallies.

Bill Simmons makes a good point when he says that America has this odd obsession with excusing everything Michael Jordan has ever done and overlooking the fact that he's a gigantic a-hole and borderline sociopath.
If you need any insight into what kind of guy he is, read Wright Thompson's piece on him and then rewatch his HoF speech.

I don't give a shite. I don't need him to watch my kids. He was one the most dominant athletes I've ever seen and it was a privilege to watch his career. Lebron lacks that frick you attitude it takes to take over games. It's that trait that will always separate Lebron from MJ.

Everyone knows, and pretty much nobody gives a frick. To quote Charles Barkley, he wasn't paid to be a role model, he was paid to cross ninjas up and dunk on fools. The fact that he's a type A dickhead doesn't change that he's the greatest athlete, not just the greatest basketball player, that I've ever seen.

How can they possibly measure this truthfully?
Posted on 7/17/14 at 10:08 pm to GEAUXmedic
This isn't a function of LeBron choosing Cleveland a mere week ago or anything.

Bron Bron was gonna pass up MJ one way or another. Time to keep up with the current generation

Yep

from what I heard on the radio the poll was taken before LeBron went back, so no it's actually not a function of that
Posted on 7/17/14 at 10:14 pm to GEAUXmedic
Well duh, he's not an athlete anymore and kids today didn't watch him.
Posted on 7/17/14 at 10:15 pm to JumpingTheShark
You can't. Comparing popularity of two athletes being watched by completely different generations is retarded

Everyone hates you and this entire shtick is why.

What an excellent contribution to the thread

Because 2,000 people said so. Definitely legit.
