I watched Apocalypse Now (original version) last night and forgot how awesome it is. What do you think is the best vietnam war era film?

The Odd Angry Shot

ETA: This trailer makes it seem like a comedy. It's really a drama with a few scenes of very dark humor.

I've only seen Apocalypse Now Redux but I thought it was pretty boring. My favorite is Full Metal Jacket.

Platoon followed closely by FMJ.

Not a huge fan of AN. It does have that awesome battle scene though.

1. Full Metal Jacket

2. Apocalypse Now! (and, somewhat against the grain, I like the redux version - it offers some perspective in spots, although it does run a little long.)

3. The Boys in Company C

4. Platoon

5. We Were Soldiers

Had beers with a Marine Tuesday that was airlifted out of Siagon, and respectfully asked him this very question. He kind of split up the answer pretty appropriately. Training: The Paris Island part of FMJ. Boots: Platoon, and Post: Deer Hunter.

For me, Apocalypse. Incredible roles, score and cinematography-but I'm just a dipsh#t that likes movies.

Need to watch platoon again. It's been a while. The Dafoe-Berenger dynamic was great. One of the few Stone flicks that doesn't blow
