This is nerdy, but anytime I don't understand something and it seems interesting, I go to the library.

Hamas is the political party currently in power in Palestine. They won the elections a few years back. Their charter states that they want to eliminate Israel. Fatah became very corrupt (arafat had blatantly embezzled hundreds of millions of the disorganized Palestinian state).

The Dome of the Rock is the most disturbing aspect of all this. They call it "the third holiest site in Islam, a designation that doesn't seem to have existed prior to 1967. It's a joke, but they're fricking married to it now, so it doesn't matter anymore.
But I've also read and heard multitudes of Israelis say they want to blow up or otherwise destroy the dome, so the Muslims will all get angry and start ww3, ushering in the apocalypse followed by a stern, theocratic state in which we're all ruled over like filthy cattle.
Call me a troll all you like, but I just don't want to support people who think so little of me and everyone like me while simultaneously demanding my money and political support. No, the Muslims are no better, but I wonder how we'd all feel about each other if none of this had ever happened.

There reasoning is because they have everything needed to reconstruct the temple sitting in a warehouse. All they need is for the dome to be gone.

There are extremist Jews and extremist Muslims. The dome is sacred bc of the land it's on. And probably the millions of dollars of gold on the roof that collects bird shite
The Jews do believe that when the messiah (not Jesus) comes to save them he will wipe out most everyone else and raise the dead Jews from the dead.

It's more than just religion. A lot of Palestinians are driven by ethnic nationalism and statehood rather than religious fervor. Arafat was arguably one.

That's not the reasoning I've heard. Watch the recent VICE episode on the subject. I know it's a liberal show, but it's not slanted, IMO. Religious nuts want the world to burn, and I bet there are more than a few people on this board who are numbered among them. But they rarely admit it when not in the company of who they think are all like minded folks.
