I'm in the market for a reasonably priced AK. I've read good and bad things about the O-PAPs and N-PAPs and milled versus stamped receivers, etc. Primary use will be target shooting, but also want reliability for SHTF situations. Any AK gurus care to help a brother out?

TIA

Probably not going to happen anymore.

Get an AR, the bottom has dropped out for the most part.

I hear "cheap" when I hear "reasonable"... that would be a Romanian WASR @ +-$550. I like the Chinese Norinco MAK 90's if you want to step it up just a little for an extra $150 or so. Get an Arsenal if money is no object @ $1400 or so.

I knew nothing about AK's, but caught the bug a few months ago. Thank goodness...

Better get it quick as I just read on the Political Board that our President signed an executive order banning the importation of AKs. Not sure if this is all AKs or only AKs from Russia. Prices will probably go up soon.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them as far as reliability is concerned. Cheaper ones like the Romanian WASR aren't as pretty and have had issues with canted sights, but always go bang. The Yugo variants are the only ones that I kbow of who didn't chrome line the bores. I never hear anything bad about Arsenal AKs. There a bit pricier but rock solid and well worth it.

Arsenal SAM7SF. It takes 5 hours to mill out the reciever from solid steel if that gives you an idea of how solid the weapon is. Amazingly accurate as well, and it has one of the best designs for a scope mount I have seen on an AK. Check out some videos. I know Tim from MilitaryArmsChannel has a review of it.
