Just starting to fish out of Chauvin with my FIL and I'm trying to understand the tides. What's the best place to look for tide predictions and how does that translate to the upper marshes? Also, how much difference is there between the Lake Boudreaux side of highway 56 vs the east side? Seems like there would be some delay with limited entrances into that area on the Chauvin side and the Dularge side.

We were on the NE side of Boudreaux in the marsh this past wknd and mainly caught throwbacks. I'm looking forward to learning the area.

Lastly, how's the duck hunting on the NE side of Boudreaux. We have the opportunity to hunt there but I've never been there during duck season to know what it's like. Dropped my Delacroix lease this year so we're going to try Chauvin.

Duck hunting should be decent if the local chaw chawts don't give you much grief.

Just North of Lake Boudreaux can get pretty brackish. I've caught some really big reds back there, but you have to fish around a lot of grass and there is A LOT of shallow water. I wouldn't take any boat back there. I got my flats boat stuck in the middle of a pond before and I could float in 6". The lake itself turns on in the fall. The tides are very difficult to determine. They do not follow the charts due to the levee system. Outside of the levee doesn't even really follow the charts that closely. The wind really plays more of a factor on the water levels in the area. When I had my boat, I really tried to pin the tide movements down and came to the conclusion that I would have to see what the situation was down there before I could really choose where to fish.

This a great site for checking out tides. Just pick the area you will be fishing and it not only tells you when the low and high tides will be, but also shows you a picture of fish to help give an idea of the best time of day to fish.

I use it all the time. I fish out of Dulac (same basic area) so say you want to go to Timbalier, look under Barataria Bay and there it is.
